Types of gold jewelry, explained. Solid gold, gold filled, gold vermeil, gold plated. They can look identical on the table, but they do not live the same life.
After twenty years designing, here is my honest advice. Choose gold filled for everyday layers. Choose solid gold for pieces you keep forever. Vermeil is a rotation piece you enjoy and then swap out. This is how you build a jewelry wardrobe that lasts.

Freshwater pearl cross earrings are not why I check every window I walk past, but they are why I look twice.

Jewelry redesign is what you do when a piece is beautiful and still lives in a drawer. Amanda’s ring was one she loved and never wore, so we reset those same stones into two fine jewelry necklaces she can wear every day.

The solitaire diamond now sits in a high white-gold bezel on a delicate yellow-gold chain. The remaining diamonds and marquise sapphires became a second necklace, a station design with matching white-gold bezels on a warmer-gold chain. Worn together, the two necklaces layer beautifully and read as one system, making this transformation truly one of a kind.

How to turn unworn gold jewelry into two new layering necklaces you’ll actually wear. A client came to me with a ring she wasn’t reaching for anymore. It was an heirloom jewelry piece that had been sitting unworn in her jewelry box. Instead of letting the gold stay tucked away, we repurposed the stones with intention. The sapphires and diamonds became a delicate station necklace and another diamond was placed into a bezel‑set necklace. Together they create a modern layering pair that feels personal and wearable.

This custom pendant started with her own folk art. We pulled motifs straight from her original design to shape the texture on the front, then carried her love of color to the back with a rich blue inlay. Personal, wearable, and made to be passed down.
