Chuck Moore donated this one-of-a-kind instrument to be auctioned, and every dollar of the final bid goes to Four Strings at a Time, the nonprofit founded by Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel. The funds support their 2027 programs: the ʻUkulele Club of Hawaiʻi, the Four String Concert Series, after-school ʻukulele curriculum and the ʻUkulele Summit.
The inlay is called "Generations in Harmony." A kupuna and a keiki, sharing a song. Chuck scrimshawed the figures by hand in faux ivory, hundreds of tiny ink-filled dots cut with a blade, set into a scene of local and exotic hardwoods. It is a rare, old technique, and this may be the most moving piece we have ever seen come through the shop.
Underneath the art is a serious player's instrument. 5A master grade koa. Ebony binding and arm bevel. Paua abalone rosette and purfling. Carbon fiber reinforced mahogany neck. Side sound port. Pegheds tuners. Light in the hands, sweet and balanced, with long sustain and intonation that holds all the way up the neck.
No CAD, no laser, no outsourcing. One builder, one bench, a lifetime of craft.
Bidding opens at $10,000 and closes Saturday, October 24 at 1:30 pm Hawaii time. Log in to your Ukulele Site account to bid. A portion of the winning bid is tax deductible, and shipping is on us.
