The Cozy Cottage Stove Story
When I met Sam over 40 yrs. ago, we had a dream of opening a place to display his beautiful furniture. I had a dream of what it would look like. In 2001 with the real prospect of Burlington closing, we thought now might be the time. I said I would name it "The Cozy Cottage" and Sam said,"Wouldn't it be neat if we could find an old cookstove to put in the kitchen". Dec. 24, 2001 he got a call about an old stove in a field the lady wanted to sell. I told Sam to go see it, cause if it was like we pictured, It would be an afirmation from God that we were meant to do this. On Dec. 31, he brought the stove to The Cozy Cottage and I dragged it around on a dolly to each room as I planned it out. Nov.3, 2002, The Cozy Cottage was born. Whenever things seemed hopeless, I would look at the stove & know I was where I was supposed to be. With the help of my dear friend, Nettie Irby, it became a place people could come in, relax & share their stories with us & leave feeling better than when they came in. Whenever I thought it was time to close, another story would come in! I have finally gotten the feeling it was okay, it was time. Last week, another story came in. I posted the stove on South Boston Yardsale, told Sam if it sold right away to someone that loved it, I again would have afirmation we were making the right decision. This morning we sold the stove to Buba Solomon, a lovely gentleman who loved the stove. Afirmation.
