Our Hardyston Elementary School community has been thrown into an incredibly difficult situation.
Parents sent their children to school Thursday with brand-new school supplies for the start of the year, only to have Hardyston Elementary close the very next day due to extensive mold and other hazardous conditions discovered inside the building.
Because of those conditions, the supplies left inside cannot simply be recovered and reused.
That means families who had just purchased everything on their children’s school supply lists are now facing the possibility of having to replace those items all over again. Teachers also spent hundreds of dollars of their own money preparing, decorating and stocking their classrooms for their students — and much of what they purchased may not be salvageable either.
These students have now been relocated to the middle school and, through absolutely no fault of their own, are starting this transition without many of the basic supplies they need.
This is not the teachers’ fault.
This is not the students’ fault.
And families should not have to carry this unexpected financial burden alone.
As the owner of Twilight Tribe Parties, a Hardyston parent directly affected by this situation, and a single mom myself, I know firsthand how difficult it is to suddenly have to replace things you just purchased days ago. Even two-income households may not have hundreds of extra dollars available to completely restart a school supply list, and our teachers have already spent enough of their own money trying to make their classrooms feel like a second home for their students.
So Twilight Tribe Parties is organizing a School Supply Drive for Hardyston Elementary students and teachers. 📚✏️🖍️

My goal is simply to take even a small amount of stress off the families and teachers affected and help make sure our kids have what they need while they adjust to an incredibly unexpected start to the school year.
