Three-year renovation brings new life to a beloved Hannibal attraction

After three years of hard work, long days and more than a little blood, sweat and tears, Sawyer's Creek Hannibal, MO is once again welcoming families to enjoy its completely renovated miniature golf course and bumper boats.

Austin and Todd Curry, owners of the Mark Twain Cave Complex and Sawyer’s Creek Fun Park, credit their dedicated team with helping transform the property and bringing the property back to life.

“This renovation took an incredible amount of time, effort and determination from our entire team,” Austin and Todd said. “They poured their hearts into this project, and we could not be prouder of what all we have accomplished. Seeing the smiling faces, hearing all the compliments and feeling the positive support from our community have made every long day worth it.”

The project included an extensive renovation of the miniature golf course and bumper boat attraction, along with countless improvements throughout the property. Almost all of the work was completed in-house by the Sawyer’s Creek and Mark Twain Cave Complex team, whose commitment carried the project through three years of planning, construction, repairs and most impressively all the one-off touches around the property.

While the renovations represent an exciting new chapter, the property’s history makes the reopening especially meaningful.

The land was once part of the Cameron Dairy Farm and in 1923, the Cameron family purchased the neighboring Mark Twain Cave property, connecting the two properties under common ownership. A portion of the land was later sold and eventually became what the community now knows as Sawyer’s Creek Fun Park.

Exactly 100 years later, in 2023, Austin and Todd Curry—who own the Mark Twain Cave Complex—purchased Sawyer’s Creek and brought the two historic properties back together once again.

“There is something really special about reconnecting these properties exactly a century later,” the Currys said. “We are proud to preserve their history while creating something new for today’s families and future generations to enjoy.”

The response from the local community and visiting families has been overwhelmingly positive. Guests have filled the park with laughter, friendly competition and excitement as they rediscover the miniature golf course and bumper boats.

“For three years, our team saw the work that still needed to be done,” the Currys added. “Now we get to see families having fun and making memories. Every smile and every compliment reminds us why we took on this project.”

Austin and Todd expressed their sincere appreciation to the employees who helped make the renovation possible, as well as the community members who encouraged and supported the project along the way.

Sawyer’s Creek Fun Park is once again connected to the Mark Twain Cave Complex—not only by property lines, but by a shared mission to preserve Hannibal’s history, create memorable family experiences and continue investing in the community.

After 100 years apart, the two properties are together again—and a new chapter of their story has only just begun.
