WORDS OF THE GUNROOM | .410 Bore

You’ve probably heard both “.410 sh***un” and “.410 bore.”

There’s a reason.

Unlike 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge, .410 is identified by its approximate bore diameter in inches.

British sporting terminology commonly calls it the .410 bore.

One little phrase—and a clue to an entirely different system of sh***un measurement.

We already know what we wanted in the HONOR line.

Now we’re curious about you.

If you could add one thing to an Odin Arms sh***un, what would it be?

A particular configuration?
A different gauge combination?
A stock preference?
Something completely different?

Fine-gun people tend to have strong opinions—and we want to hear them. 👇

🔨 Gun of the Day – Wi******er Model 21 S***t Grade 20 Gauge Two-Barrel Set

One gun, two distinctly different configurations. This Wi******er Model 21 S***t Grade pairs a classic S***t setup with an unusually interesting 30-inch field barrel set.

🔹 20 Gauge
🔹 Two-Barrel Set
🔹 26½” Barrels — WS-1 / WS-2
🔹 2¾” Chambers on 26½” Set
🔹 30” Barrels — Modified / Full
🔹 3” Chambers on 30” Set
🔹 English Straight-Grip Stock
🔹 Single Selective Trigger
🔹 Checkered Wood Butt
🔹 Solid Concave Matted Ribs
🔹 Approx. 6 lbs. 6 oz. with 26½” Barrels

The shorter S***t barrels give the gun one personality, while the 30-inch, 3-inch-chambered barrels create an entirely different field configuration. Add the straight-grip walnut and classic Model 21 styling, and this is a particularly interesting two-barrel set.

📍 Currently part of the Northern Wings & Clays showroom collection in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

BEHIND THE ART | Why Game Scenes?

Pheasant. Grouse. Partridge. Woodcock. Ducks.

Look across generations of sporting-gun engraving and game birds appear again and again.

The imagery wasn’t random.

These guns were created for the sporting field, and engravers frequently decorated them with scenes reflecting that world.

On exceptional examples, those tiny scenes can become miniature works of art in steel.

The decoration tells you something about the culture the gun was made for.

This is the time of year sporting guns were made for.

Cooler mornings. Dogs getting excited when the gear comes out. Boots by the door. And another season of days in the field ahead.

The Odin Arms HONOR Field was created for exactly this environment.

Beautiful enough to appreciate.

Built to leave the gun rack.

Here’s to another season in the uplands.

🔨 Gun of the Day – Wi******er Model 21 S***t Grade 20 Gauge

A classic pre-war Model 21, dating to approximately 1942. This 20-gauge S***t Grade combines a desirable small-bore configuration with the handling characteristics that helped establish the Model 21’s reputation among American sporting doubles.

🔹 20 Gauge
🔹 Circa 1942
🔹 26” Barrels
🔹 2¾” Chambers
🔹 WS-1 / WS-1 Chokes
🔹 Single Selective Trigger
🔹 Solid Concave Matted Rib
🔹 Pistol-Grip Stock
🔹 Beavertail Forearm
🔹 Approx. 6 lbs. 12 oz.

The gun retains the character of a well-cared-for vintage sporting gun, with attractive walnut and the honest signs of use expected from an example more than eight decades old.

WORDS OF THE GUNROOM | The Safety Catch

Read older British gun catalogs and you’ll often encounter a term Americans don’t use nearly as often:

Safety catch.

It’s the traditional British term for the mechanism commonly called the safety.

It’s a small example of something you’ll discover throughout the world of fine sporting guns:

British and American gunmakers sometimes developed entirely different vocabulary for familiar things.

When you’re looking at a fine gun, don’t just look at the side of the receiver.

Turn it over.

Look at how the engraving continues. Look at the transitions between wood and metal. Look at the places that weren’t designed to be the first thing you see in a photograph.

Those areas often tell you just as much about a gun as the obvious ones.

The next time we show you an Odin, we’ll show you some of those details too.
