πŸ” THE HEN HAS COME HOME TO ROOST! πŸ”

Yes, you read that right. The now-famous amber hen has officially made her way back home to Temperance Antique Emporium. ❀️

She was returned to the store today, and I genuinely want to thank the gentleman who brought her back and the lady for making the decision to return her.

Regardless of everything that's been said over the past day, I sincerely appreciate her returning the hen.

Our vendor has his merchandise back, which was ultimately what we wanted from the beginning. ❀️

The $10 originally paid for the hen was not refunded when she was returned today. We would like to return that $10, and we'd also be happy to reimburse the gas used to make the trip back to Temperance. She is welcome to contact us privately so we can arrange that.

At this point, there doesn't need to be any more arguing, accusations, or fighting over this.

The hen is home. πŸ”
Our vendor has his merchandise back.
And I think it's safe to say we can put this whole situation to roost. πŸ˜πŸ˜‰

Thank you to everyone who shared our post, reached out, supported us and our vendor, and helped us get this little lady home.

And again, thank you for returning her. I sincerely appreciate it. ❀️

Now... can we PLEASE get back to shopping?

We've got approximately 19,300 other square feet of antiques that haven't caused an internet uprising. πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

FINAL CLARIFICATION REGARDING YESTERDAY'S POST

Since one of the biggest misconceptions being repeated is that this was simply an item that was "priced wrong," here is the hen BEFORE the sale.

The vendor's price: $120.

This is the tag the vendor placed on this hen.

The tag presented at checkout was NOT this tag. It was a $10 tag belonging to a DIFFERENT ITEM from the SAME VENDOR.

That is the entire issue.

This was not a cashier deciding the hen should have cost more. It was not the Emporium changing the price after a sale. And it was not a vendor realizing afterward that he had priced something too cheaply.

The $120 tag shown in this photograph was no longer on the hen when it reached our register and had been replaced with a $10 tag.

Because there have been hundreds of comments, shares, messages, assumptions, and quite a bit of misinformation, I want to clarify the rest in one place rather than continuing to answer the same questions individually.

Our cashier did not change the price or make a pricing mistake. He simply rang the tag that was physically attached to the merchandise when it was presented at checkout.

We are a 20,000-square-foot antique mall with 60+ independent vendors and thousands upon thousands of items. Our cashiers cannot possibly memorize the price or market value of every item in the building. Their job is to ring the tag attached to the merchandise.

Before making our post, we reviewed the surveillance footage, transaction records, vendor information, the tags involved, and the sequence of events surrounding the purchase.

We did not make this post based on a hunch or simply because an item sold for less than expected. We have evidence supporting the conclusion we reached.

And this brings me to probably the most repeated demand in the comments:

"IF YOU HAVE EVIDENCE, POST IT."

No.

Facebook is not a courtroom. The comment section is not a jury, and Facebook certainly isn't the judge, jury, and final say on what happened inside our business.

What's especially absurd is that we're being criticized for posting pictures of the customer while simultaneously being criticized β€” sometimes by the very same people β€” for NOT posting MORE surveillance footage of her.

"How dare you post her picture!"

But also:

"Post more pictures and video or we don't believe you!"

You can't have it both ways.

What we have chosen to post publicly and what evidence we actually possess are two entirely different things.

We are not going to publish our complete surveillance footage, camera coverage, transaction records, or every other piece of evidence we have simply to satisfy a Facebook comment section.

If that evidence needs to be provided to law enforcement, attorneys, or a court, that's where it will be provided.

Since making the post, we've also received numerous private messages. Some are from people claiming to personally know the woman β€” including some identifying themselves as family members β€” who allege that this is not the first time she has been involved in something like this. Others have contacted us to say she's a pastor's wife and would never do something like this.

Neither one determines what happened in our store.

I'm not going to decide someone did or didn't do something because of who they are, who they're married to, or what someone else says about them.

I'm going by the evidence we have from THIS incident. That's what mattered when yesterday's post was made, and that's what matters now.

And finally, I want people to understand something about Temperance Antique Emporium.

Our vendors are not just booth numbers or people who pay us rent.

They're our Temperance family.

They invest their money, time, and hard work into their merchandise and trust us to look after it. I take that responsibility personally.

If I know someone has intentionally taken advantage of one of our vendors, I WILL always stand up for them.

I don't care if the person involved is a pastor's wife, a politician, the President of the United States, or the Pope himself. A person's title, occupation, connections, or social status does not put them above accountability or the responsibility to do the right thing.

And being a Christian does not require me to sit silently when someone takes advantage of people I have a responsibility to protect.

People are free to dislike my humor, disagree with how I handled the post, or say they would have done things differently. That's perfectly fine.

But it's very easy to say what you would have done when you're looking at a Facebook post from the outside. You weren't standing in my position, responsible for protecting someone else's merchandise and dealing with the situation firsthand.

What people don't get to do is turn their assumptions into facts simply because I refuse to publish our entire evidence file on Facebook.

We know what we reviewed before making the post, and we stand behind our decision to protect our vendor.

I'm not going to spend another day answering the same questions over and over, so hopefully this clears up the misconceptions.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out respectfully, supported our vendors, and understands why protecting the people who make Temperance Antique Emporium what it is matters so much to us. ❀️

EDIT TO CLARIFY:
Due to questions regarding whether this may have been an accidental markdown, the facts are as follows:

The vendor did not mark the hen down. In fact, the vendor brought this to our attention after receiving an automatic notification that his $120 hen had sold for $10.

We have preserved surveillance footage and transaction records related to this transaction.

We are not seeking to engage in public dispute or cause embarrassment to any party. Our priority is to ensure the vendor is made whole and that this matter is resolved appropriately.

The customer is welcome to contact us to either pay the correct price for the hen or return it in the same condition for a $10 refund. That is the resolution we are requesting.

While the original post included a lighthearted tone, our position on this matter is very serious.
We are committed to protecting our vendors and the merchandise entrusted to us.

Protecting our vendors and their merchandise is my number one priority.

πŸš¨πŸ” Y’ALL… WE HAVE A LITTLE CHICKEN MYSTERY AT TEMPERANCE. πŸ”πŸš¨

And apparently today was the day for a little FOWL PLAY. πŸ˜‚πŸ”

We are trying to identify the lady pictured below regarding the amber glass Hen on Nest she purchased today from Temperance Antique Emporium at exactly 11:07 a.m. β€” and yes, that would be the big amber chicken she's carrying around in her hand. πŸ‘€

There seems to be a VERY significant discrepancy involving the price tag that accompanied this particular hen to the register.

Let's just say this chicken somehow received a markdown so miraculous it nearly qualifies as a biblical event. πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚πŸ™

Fortunately, while our employee didn't think anything of it at the time, our security cameras don't trust anybody. πŸ˜‚πŸŽ₯

We have surveillance footage documenting the incident, her time in the store, the chicken and the purchase. We also have the transaction information.

Now… we couldn't help but notice her shirt:

β€œI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” β€” Philippians 4:13

And before anybody gets their feathers ruffled β€” we aren't making fun of the verse. We believe it wholeheartedly. β€οΈπŸ™

But since we're quoting Scripture, there's another verse that seems particularly fitting today:

β€œBe sure your sin will find you out.” β€” Numbers 32:23

And apparently, sometimes your sin finds you out in 4K. πŸŽ₯πŸ‘€πŸ˜‚πŸ”

And as my Southern upbringing taught me:

Jesus DON'T like ugly! πŸ˜‚πŸ™

Apparently this little hen managed to fly under the radar at the register, but unfortunately for our mysterious chicken shopper, the cameras caught the flight pattern. πŸŽ₯πŸ”

So we're giving her the opportunity to contact us and get this situation straightened out for our vendor before we let law enforcement help us investigate The Great Amber Chicken Caper of 2026.

Ma'am, if you're seeing this:

Please send us a message. We'd LOVE to have a little talk about that hen. πŸ”πŸ˜Š

If you recognize her, please send us a private message or simply let her know Temperance Antique Emporium would really like to speak with her.

So, let's recap:

πŸ” We know which hen.
⏰ We know what time.
πŸ’³ We have the transaction.
πŸŽ₯ We have the cameras.
πŸ‘€ We have the pictures.

We're just trying to put a name to the feathers. πŸ˜‚

So y'all share this post and help us get our ducks in a row…

Wait.
Wrong bird. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ”

Hopefully Facebook can help us clip the wings on this little chicken mystery, because one way or another, I have a feeling this hen is about to come home to roost. πŸ”πŸ‘€

Somebody knows our mysterious chicken shopper. SHARE AWAY!
