✨ Cabinet Curiosity #57

Dave’s dad has collected PEZ since he was a little guy, and he has kept some of the coolest things. Between his collection and the storage units full of old board games, there is always a possibility that something rare, strange, or wonderfully nostalgic is hiding in an otherwise ordinary box.

This Wolfman was something he found lying around and passed along to Dave.

Dave, exercising the careful stewardship appropriate for a collectible from 1965, shoved him into my glove box.

I opened it, saw a sixty-year-old monster staring back at me, and nearly screamed. Then I realized anyone nearby would simply see a grown woman sitting in her car screaming at a Wolfman, which raised more questions than I was prepared to answer.

He has no feet, a wonderfully appropriate brown stem, and the expression of someone who has been trapped in a glove compartment against his will. Honestly, I understand his mood.

It was approximately one thousand degrees at a Pennsylvania yard sale when a young mom picked up this dress, touched the fabric, and said, “Velvet? In this heat?”

She put it down.

I laughed, picked it up, and said, “It’s not always going to be this hot in Pennsylvania.”

And thank God for seasonal optimism, because look at her.

This tiny handmade late-1960s velvet mini dress is fuchsia, dramatic, heavily decorated, and labeled “Specially Hand Made By Catherine.” The puff sleeves, jeweled buttons, ornate cream trim, and very short hem make it feel like Mod fashion wandered into a Victorian parlor and refused to leave.

She is exceptionally small, so measurements matter far more than any estimated size. But for the right petite person, collector, stylist, or costume wardrobe, this is an absolute gem.
