June 6, 1944 – D-Day
This date has always held special meaning for me.
Eighty-two years ago, thousands of young men crossed the English Channel and stepped onto the beaches of Normandy. They did not hesitate when their country called upon them, despite knowing the very real possibility that they might never return home.
They fought not for recognition, nor for glory, but to free the world from the tyranny of Hi**er and N**i Germany from my native country France 🇫🇷. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering sense of duty changed the course of history and secured freedoms that many of us enjoy to this day.
It was a different time, yet the lessons of D-Day remain as relevant as ever. What makes this remembrance even more special is that some of these veterans are still with us. Many of them never considered themselves heroes, despite accomplishing extraordinary things under unimaginable circumstances, I am of course specifically thinking of Major Dick Winters which finished is paisible life right here in central Pennsylvania where I also have the chance to live and raise my family.
Today, we honor those who landed on the beaches of Normandy, those who gave everything, and those who returned home carrying memories that would stay with them forever.
May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we always cherish the freedom they helped preserve.
