In March 2020, I felt hopeless and didn’t know where to turn yet I wanted to help the front line workers with much needed masks. I didn’t know how to sew, own a sewing machine or even have supplies... but I had a strong desire to serve. I sent out a text to my neighbors and friends and within a few days, I had enough fabric, elastic and a sewing machine to do make masks. I taught myself how to sew via YouTube and over 4,000 masks were made. While my children attended school at the dining room table, I would sew in my newly mounted table in the middle of the living room. Some days, I made 10 masks & other days 50; all depending on how much help I need to give the kids with school work. I am honored to have received physical & monetary donations to keep making masks. When I went back to work in June as a Hygienist, I noticed a need for surgical scrub caps, and taught myself via YouTube again. Now, I make a variety of items, including masks for the elf on the shelf. Along with selling my creations at a lower price point for accessibility, I continue to gift them at times of need.
