Artes And Craft - OUR MISSION

We steadfastly, obdurately, and pugnaciously refuse to be just another Wiccan and/or New Age shop. My wife and I have been practicing occultists for more decades than we care to say. We run a well-known Alexandrian based coven with a storied lineage (MoonFire), are initiates of OTO and practicing ceremonials, and also well practiced in British Traditional pre-Wicca Witchcraft and in Yoruban practices. Although our wares will have a price, our advice and experience will be free. We have now retired from the corporate world to focus on our shop and temple; our careers did at least make it possible for us to travel all over the world. As such we have seen many wonderful stores and products from all over and have brought the best of everything together under a single roof. We have also traveled all over the fair state of Michigan, visiting many a pagan festival and conference. Therefore we will also present the very best of Michigan pagan artisans under our roof. Our local community is important to us, our shop and temple will be a community resource. We will not sell mass manufactured products made in the sweatshops of China and India beyond that which is absolutely necessary. Our tools and adornments will be hand made from locally gathered Michigan materials. We have our own forge and woodwork shop and will offer hand-made ritual weapons made by experts observing the necessary correspondences and times. Those who practice or wish to practice traditional witchcraft will find stangs, staffs, keppens, mazey stones, wish stones, witch hooks, hand forged blades, and more. Ceremonial magicians will find ritual weapons suitable for Thelema, Golden Dawn and grimoire magick. We will also have products for Santeria, Yoruba, Voudun and Astatru. We will cover the day to day basic ritual supplies everyone needs, and those items which are for specialist purposes and hard to find. We will be able to supply the beginner… but will also have that which is exotic for the seasoned practitioner and expert. Ours is the biggest apothecary in the area. We carry a range of raw incense ingredients and herbs, including live plants, as well as our own award winning Luna Ignis brand of incense blends and anointing oils. We will sell books, but not just the generic mass produced paperbacks you find in a typical store, we import books from England and small specialist publishers. Our store will showcase books from the Talismatic Publishers - small publishing houses that make limited edition and hard to find books that specialize in Traditional Witchcraft, the High Occult, grimoires and more. We are a destination. Our ultimate goal is to help pagan Michigan thrive and to be the biggest and most specialized store in the mid west. We invite you to join us! OPINIONS PLEASE!!!… After much practice I have become adept at aiming for which colors I achieve when I make my blades irridescent… I dialed up purple because every wand I carve from Purple Heart, or any blade I put a Purple Heart handle on, sell out immediately… Because witches love purple… It is known. It’s very much a witch thing… So I finished a batch of Athames forged from steel rectangle bar and decided some would be all purple… And some I would make the handle irridescent and leave the blade all shiny and chrome… I started removing the iridescent patina from the first half of the blade, turned it around to do the other half, and was struck by the coolness of the two tone effect… I showed it to wifey because sometimes my color choices require supervision by an approved adult…. And she liked it too… But WHAT DO YOU THINK????

Have a wonderful AUTUMNAL EQUINOX. ~ Pat, Paul, Scott, Laura, Lucie, Sir Langdon, Long-distance Rusty, Ocassionaly Char and Nikki

And just an FYI from Sorita d'Este:

"As many of you know, I lived in Wales, my son was born there, and even then many of us were trying to address the peculiar habit of calling the Autumn Equinox “Mabon.” i remember realising it was wrong... having used it myself before (one of my Wiccan teachers used it and sometimes Modron as the name of the festival). I stopped using it without hesitation that day.

I have heard some extraordinary attempts to justify it. Apparently Mabon means “good mother.” It does not. Apparently it is pronounced “May-bonne.” It is not. Mabon ap Modron is a male figure from Welsh mythology, and his name was never the traditional Welsh name for an equinox festival.

The festival name was introduced into the modern Pagan calendar by an American writer in the 1970s. That does not make anyone foolish for having learnt or used it. Most of us inherit terminology without being told where it came from. But once we know better, surely we can do better.

Continuing to use Mabon as the name of the Autumn Equinox is not honouring Welsh tradition. It takes the name of a Welsh divine or heroic figure, mispronounces it, misrepresents it and attaches it to a festival with which it had no historical connection. It is disrespectful to the figure, the language and the culture.

Education alone does not seem to be changing things, so perhaps it is time to make the misnomer unfashionable. Let us make “I stopped calling it Mabon when I discovered a man made it up in the 1970s” the next great Pagan social-media trend.

Share a post. Make a reel. Tell the story in your own language. Be funny, factual and relentless. Let us fill every corner of Pagan social media with one very simple message:

It is the Autumn Equinox. It was never Mabon."

Grand Rapids Pagan Pride was canceled… Bummer, but it did rain like a bastard. So I got an unscheduled extra forging day… Which is good as I take the summer off as it’s too hot to forge. And we have been so busy that I was shocked to see we have very few witches daggers left in stock, no bolines, almost no serpent and spiral pendants, only two staffs left, we are running out of swords…. And it’s vending season, and therefore it’s time to get back to the grindstone in a big way… I got 6 pairs of copper dowsing rod blades made and five brass pairs today. Although we need Athames, I forged for about 18 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday and got 11 new ones forged and wanted to rest my hammer arm today. I had some extra time today and, as promised, used some of the copper rod to make serpent and spiral pendants. The iron ones are super popular and I think the copper will be even more so. I want to make some more and these need grinding and polishing. I have four consecutive days smithing starting tomorrow and I’m going to make a bunch of Kris and Serpent dagger blades. I’m excited, it’s good to be hammering again!
