Hartville Thrift Shoppe We provide affordable, quality clothing and household items to the community in a comfortable shoppi

Hartville Thrift Shoppe financially supports the work of Mennonite Central Committee, a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches that shares God's love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. Our shoppe provides affordable items to the community while recycling. We also provide a place where individuals can serve and volunteer locally.

THIS SATURDAY - October 17th - AMISH COUNTRY DONUTS truck will be here in our front parking lot to help us end our Store 48th Anniversary Celebration! You won't want to miss them. They will be open by 10am and here as long as their supply lasts. I know it is supposed to be chilly on Saturday - so what better than warm luscious HUGE yummy fresh made donuts?? Grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and head on over to get some and then come on in and shop. You know - walk it off. 😉 (Get there before Bob the Book Guy because he's been waiting for this since spring when they were last here!)

On October 4, 1978, our store opened to humble beginnings in a large old 2-story house just west of our current location. Initially run by volunteers, we then evolved to a part-time paid manager, and then sometimes co-managers, etc. In 1985 we moved to a new building on land donated by Howard Miller, with mostly donated labor, at 1221 West Maple where we were for 27 years. In 2012 we moved to our current location at 938 West Maple where we occupy 41,000 square feet, have a staff of just over 40, and enjoy the generous help of over 130 volunteers! AMAZING! And all thanks to God for the success of this ministry! From the beginning the reason for our existence has been to support Mennonite Central Committee, which we continue to do. (See MCC.org for more information.) MCC encourages us to give 10% of our profits to local charities so we also support Lake Township FISH, Lake Cares, Love Our Community, and provide service grants for missions work. Our other goals are to be a great place for folks to volunteer, and to provide products at affordable prices for our community. Our core values focus on Faith, Family, Fun, and Flexibility - and if you'd like to join us on this continuing journey by volunteering or joining our staff check out our website at Hartvillethriftshoppe.org.
Come in and visit us!
We thank everyone who makes this ministry possible - our customers, donors, and of course our staff, leadership, and our volunteers! What a privilege to be a part of this legacy, and we couldn't do it without all of you. We pray God's richest blessings on you all, as well as on MCC and the work they do throughout the world.
Happy 48th Anniversary, Hartville Thrift Shoppe!

We hope you're enjoying your September!
On Tuesday many of our folks gathered at the Hartville Kitchen for our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. The theme for the evening was from Jesus' words in Matthew 6 and Luke 12, reminding us to (paraphrasing) "Consider the lilies, how they don't toil or spin. But God cares for them. And how much more does God care for you." Wonderful food and fellowship. Great music from 50% Cotton - Pam and Dwayne Blough, their daughter Faith, and friend Lowell. A great mix of hymns, a little Bob Dylan, Harry Chapin, and Gillian Welch - so good! Kaci Diener, our MCC Great Lakes Thrift Shop Coordinator, and Eric Kurtz, the Executive Director for MCC Great Lakes came from Indiana to be with us and both shared about the work of MCC. It was wonderful - even with a couple bad dad jokes from Eric! He shared with great clarity about several particular situations and how MCC is helping to meet the needs in places like Nepal, Cuba, Sudan, and Ukraine. Our Executive Director, Phil Stauffer also gave us an overview of the last year and why we have so much for which to be grateful. Our volunteers are more appreciated than any dinner can say, and it was so good to be updated and reminded why the work we do together is so important - besides being FUN! A few pics and a separate video. Thank you Volunteers! And thank you staff, donors, and customers. Different cogs in the same wheel and we are grateful to be doing this work with you! If you'd like to join our volunteer team you can come in, or call the store, or go to our website at hartvillethriftshoppe.org and click on the volunteer tab. We'd love to have you!
