It started over 29 years ago when Jon Morrissette met and fell in love with Marsha Goodwin, who both realized that they had a passion for vintage collectible toys. Marsha loving dolls, Barbie and glassware and Jon’s passion for Records, Tin Toys and Popeye collectibles. Together, they decided to open a small shop on the outskirts of Hatboro, PA and within 2 years out grew out the space, finding th
eir permanent home at 53 S. York Road, right in the heart of Hatboro. That all was 30 years ago. Unfortunately, tragedy stuck and Marsha died suddenly in 2006, leaving not only Jon but Marsha’s two children, Michelle & Steven. Jon was devastated and uncertain if he could continue with the shop that held all the precious memories of him and Marsha. However, after mourning Marsha’s passing, he realized he wanted to keep Marsha’s memory alive and keep the store going. Hatboro long-time local, Karen Nicolo, was hired 13 years ago to help Jon keep the doors open and lights on, at first. Quickly, over the years, she has become Jon’s long time business partner and helped the store grow into what it is today. As of today, Joys & Toys has been able to call Hatboro it’s home for over 30 years! It is one of the few staples in Hatboro that continues to run after all the ups and downs, it’s been through. Jon continues to buy, sell and fill the store with fun collectibles and records for anyone’s interests. We have lots of loyal customers, customers from the Tri-State area and even, worldwide. Several of our international customers mark a day on their calendar to make sure to come by the shop when they are in town. We are a small business in a small town and love being in the heart of Hatboro. Even better is the history of the land that we share with our fellow neighboring shops. It is stated that the land used to be the location for the third library of the initial 13 colonies. Some time later, it became a local pub that George Washington and his troops would stop at on their trips to New Jersey and Philadelphia. It also is one of the landmarks for the Battle of Crooked Billet which is represented by a plague on the outside of the building. Of course, over the years, the piece of land we share has become what it is today, with local bakery, Lochell’s of 20 years and Winships Clock Shop, which was in charge of restoring the Lukens Clock at the Hatboro Brough Hall built back in 1812. We wish to thank Hatboro, all our old friends, customers and new friends for stopping and shopping at Joys & Toys, your last stop for the best collectibles on the planet.
