Molly and Devin head off to college this week, and they’ll be taking the quilts I made for them to celebrate their high school graduations. ❤️

Molly is my daughter, Devin is my niece, and watching these two girls grow up together has been one of the great joys of my life. Since they were little, they’ve always gotten twinning gifts, so matching quilts felt just right.

Both quilts are made in colors they’ve loved through the years - pink when they were little and green now that they’re older. They’re made up of scrappy sawtooth stars with an Irish chain running through the pattern, a little nod to their shared heritage.

Shea graduated from Georgetown this year too so all three girls received quilts from me at the same time. I tucked pieces of Shea’s quilt into Molly and Devin’s, just as pieces of their quilts found their way into Shea’s.

It’s hard to believe Molly and Devin are leaving in just a couple days. I’ve spent so many years watching them grow up, trying to soak up every stage along the way, and somehow, here we are.

I hope these quilts always feel like a little piece of home - and a big hug from me.

When my niece, Shea, graduated from Georgetown this year, I knew I wanted to make her a quilt to celebrate - and I knew I wanted to use some fabrics with a little history. ❤️

It’s a true scrappy quilt, made from fabrics I’ve collected over the years - some from my bag-making days, some that remind me of Shea, some from a quilt I made for her when she was born, and even a few fabrics from quilts I made for Devin and Molly (her sister and cousin).

I love that so many of the fabrics in this quilt have a connection to our family and to different times in their lives. There’s a little bit of Shea as a baby, a little bit of Devin and Molly, and a little bit of my own creative history in there too.

Shea, I’m so proud of you and so excited to see what comes next.

I’ve always loved Christmas cactuses. My mom always had them in the house when I was growing up, and it was always fun to see those flat, scalloped stems suddenly covered in blooms - a little sign the holidays were on their way. Even now, the blooms surprise me. How do they somehow know when it’s time? It feels a little magical - and perfectly appropriate for the holiday season.

For the shop, I made a small batch of planters with Christmas cactuses in mind. The shapes are simple and meant to let the plant - and those blooms - be the star.

Now I love gifting them to friends for the holidays. Every year I get messages when their plants start to bloom, and it’s become a sweet little tradition. (And that last photo? It’s the annual text from a friend I gave a cactus to five years ago.🩷)
