A Little Heart-to-Heart from Sherry & Megan ❤️

Running a small, locally owned business comes with so many perks. One of our favorite parts is getting to know our customers and becoming part of this community. We love the customers who stop in on their day off just to visit and chat, or just have a free moment to wander, or the customers who come in on a mission for that project or present, the relationships we’ve built over the years, getting to personalize merchandise, and being able to support the community that supports us.

But along with the perks come challenges that aren’t always visible from the other side of the counter.

We work hard to find suppliers who carry the things our customers are looking for, and we constantly search for prices that allow us to compete with much larger retailers. When a big-box store can order 2,000 of something and get a better price, while we may only be able to order 20, it can be a challenge for a small business like ours.

And unfortunately, shoplifting is another challenge we are facing.

Shoplifting itself is not new, which is why we have multiple security cameras throughout our store. What is new and increasingly concerning is the number of kids we are seeing leave the store with merchandise.

We LOVE carrying fun new toys, games, and whatever the latest trend happens to be. Honestly, those are some of our favorite things to order! But finding empty boxes tossed behind shelves or in random areas of the store is discouraging and, quite honestly, unsettling.

So we’re asking our customers and especially our parents to please talk to your kids. ❤️

Talk to them about respecting businesses and the merchandise inside them. Talk to them about not opening or destroying packaging before something is purchased. Talk to them about playing with merchandise in the store when they have no intention of buying it. And most importantly, talk to them about shoplifting and the consequences that come with it.

We want our store to be a fun place where kids can come in, look around, discover something new, and get excited about what we have. We want to keep bringing in the fun, unique, and sometimes hard-to-find things that make our store special.

But we need your help to be able to continue doing that.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for shoplifting. When someone is caught stealing, we will contact law enforcement, press charges, and trespass them from the store permanently.

We truly love this community and feel incredibly lucky to be a part of it. We want to continue supporting our community, bringing in fun and different merchandise, and being a place where people enjoy shopping and visiting.
