Mark’s on a heater!

September musky fishing has been pretty darn good so far and Mark is on ‘em.

Water is super low everywhere in the Hayward area and that has us working very hard in the rivers right now. But with the right approach and some determination, the muskies are still out there to be found.

What a strange and wonderful day for our longtime angler and friend John!

We were seeing and moving muskies all day with little to show for it, and kept telling each other eventually something was going to change and go our way. Later that afternoon, this sturgeon was hooked inside the mouth with one of John’s own musky flies, and gave him a wild ride on his 10wt! After a smooth release, John followed that up in short order with a great eat and hookup on a sporty, fast water musky and our day was complete. Congrats John!

Fishing has been demanding at times recently in the Hayward area. Ultra low, ultra clear water has made for some challenging, but not impossible, bass fishing. The fun of locating a fish and presenting to it is something we’re enjoying more of these days!

Rivers are as low as any of us have seen them. Current CFS flow rates for the Hayward area rivers are as follows…

Namekagon: 46 CFS
St. Croix: 423 CFS
Flambeau: 571 CFS
Chippewa (Bishop’s Bridge): 199
