I've been sewing and crafting for as long as I can remember. If there's a technique I haven't tried, it's probably on my wish list. At my blog, Crafty Staci, I share beginner-friendly craft and sewing tutorials, simple recipes, links to fun things I find elsewhere and my successful, and sometimes not-so-successful, attempts at expressing my own creativity. I find that people who haven't tried it before are occasionally hesitant to take that first step into making things. I try to guide and inspire them to jump in and not be afraid to make mistakes along the way. I'm very fortunate that I can spend my days doing the things I love! I also have a shop on Etsy where I sell handmade photography accessories, like straps, lens cap holders, business card holders and memory card wallets, coffee cup sleeves, DIY coffee cup sleeve sewing kits and vendor aprons.

With Halloween coming later this week, I wanted to share this little trip to the way back, the way, way back, and the way, way, way back.

The photo on the left is my granddaughter when she was two years old. She's wearing a handmade witch's costume. The photo on the right is my daughter, also two years old, wearing the exact same costume.

Here's the kicker...I don't have a photo of it, but I wore the very same costume when I was two years old!!! I still have it, and it's in remarkably good shape for being 55 years old! 🎃

I think I made a mistake.... 🫤

I'm working on my project for and we were instructed to include a applique element. That's not something I do often, so now I'm wondering if I should have quilted the whole thing first, and THEN added the applique.

I guess it doesn't matter now, because all of the applique pieces are already sewn down and I'm NOT removing them to start over, but I'm curious. Do you quilt or applique first?

I'm about to start on my last project for and I'm really hoping I have enough contrast between these blues for what I have in mind. Choosing colors online is a challenge, especially when they're different even just between my two screens. I guess we're about to find out how I did!

I want to take a minute today to wish my husband/contractor a happy birthday! These two little helpers know him as Papa, but he's been my one-and-only for 37 years. He's been working on our house for months, with more to go, and I don't even know how to tell him how much I appreciate it, and how much I'm looking forward to sharing it together. ❤️

There's always that one chair in the house that's the favorite. It's the perfect balance of soft and firm, has the right number of pillows, and always has a quilt ready on the back for when it gets chilly. This block is that chair. Who brought the popcorn? 🍿

Since my husband (and general contractor) is out of town for a week, I thought it was a good time to give an update on my studio. I have sheetrock and lights! As soon as he gets home next week, the HVAC company will be here installing the furnace and ducting. When mud and tape is finished, paint is in place, door is built and installed, and the metal is up for my design wall, I'll be moving in. I can't wait! 🤩
