I must be clairvoyant. Ten years ago, I published the article below warning that Measure U wasn’t what it was being sold as. At the time, I was criticized, mocked, and accused of being anti-police and anti-fire. I wasn’t. I was pro-taxpayer and pro-honesty.

Today, Hemet is discussing yet another 1% sales tax because Measure U failed to deliver many of the promises made to voters. Even Howard Rosenthal—the chairman of the Measure U campaign—now says he believes it was a mistake and that the city should have pursued contracting out services instead.

Before you vote to give City Hall another penny on every dollar you spend, take a few minutes to read what was written in 2016. Judge it on the facts, not on who wrote it. Ask yourself one question: Were the warnings closer to reality than the promises?
