👻 COIN MYTH: ‘CLEANING MAKES AN OLD COIN BETTER.’

NOPE. Put the polish down and back away from the Morgan. 😂

Collectors often prefer a coin’s original surfaces, even when they show age. Abrasive cleaning can leave hairlines, alter the surface and hurt collector appeal. That dark patina or toning may be part of the coin’s history, not dirt that needs scrubbing away.

Rule inside the Vault: when in doubt, DON’T CLEAN IT. 🖤

🔎 WOULD YOU HAVE SPOTTED IT?

A mint mark is tiny, but collectors know tiny details can tell BIG stories. On U.S. coins, letters such as D and S identify the mint facility that struck the coin. No mint mark can mean something different depending on the coin and year.

That little letter can be the first clue when you’re figuring out exactly what you have.

Tonight’s challenge: grab a handful of coins and see how many different mint marks you can find. Tell me the oldest coin in your pile. 👇

🪙 VAULT FACT OF THE DAY: THE ‘WHEAT’ PENNY 🌾

Flip over a Lincoln cent dated 1909–1958 and you may see two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT. That design is why collectors call them Wheat pennies or Wheaties.

And no, old does not automatically mean expensive. Date, mint mark, condition and variety can turn two coins that look almost identical into completely different collectibles. 👀
