Such a fresh and innovative novel for young readers! Told in two voices - a novel in verse from mom (Cassiopeia) from her childhood in the 1980s during the farm crisis; a prose novel from daughter (Xyla) that crackles with one of the sharpest voices in middle grade. Readers will learn about farming, quinceneras, immigration, percussion, and clocks! Just fantastic, especially for readers who might feel out of step with the rest of the world. This one is on my Newbery short list! -Sara

You should always listen to Mr. Colby Sharp when it comes to books for children. And he is 100% correct about the upcoming picture book from Friend of the Store Meg Medina. Sara got a sneak peek at the galley and it is glorious. We can't wait to have it in the shop...but we will have to wait until March 2027!
