Oh my - what a beautiful book. It is shelved in the YA section, but I loved it as an adult reader who reads middle grade (and not much YA). We are thrilled to welcome Susan Metallo back to RVA and to the Book People family of local authors.

I love Jess and the journey she goes on in this book. Autistic readers will cheer for her, but so will anyone who has felt out of step with the rest of the world (isn't that all of us?) and powerless to change it. I wish we all had a friend like Cam to support us and to call us out when we need it. And, I hope we can all learn from Jess and her mom as they find a way to rebuild their relationship.

That just scratches the surface of this gorgeous book. Metallo does a masterful job of letting everyone - adults and kids - be authentic and messy. No pat answers here. Instead, living this life is a process with big highs and devastating lows. Just loved it, and I can't wait for her new book coming in September! (On shelves now!) -Sara
