AND! You spoke and we listened. We have 4lb bags of charcoal. Just toss the bag in the grill and light it. It's getting toward the end of the season. Do you want 3/4 of a bag of Kingsford hanging around the garage all winter? (I know...some of us Yoopers grill all winter, but you know what we're talking about.)

How do you take a pic with your cell phone that captures the quality of a professional photo? You just have to come in and see these. We are proud to be the exclusive gallery for Spirit Bear Photography from right here in the Les Cheneaux Islands.

Lets see if I can describe these better than my pics. Dave and Rhys make a great team. Dave focuses on capturing the movement of life in still photos. Large subjects draw you in with shocking detail. Our photos of Narnia, Northern Lights over Caribou Lake, Point Iroquois shore, and Yellow Dog Falls all reflect this. Rhys' photos compliment this with stunning detail of a single subject. They cut through the noise and invite you to cherish the beauty of something from our local flora and fauna that you may have never noticed before like prairie smoke from the Maxton Plains on Drummond Island.

We have examples of their photography printed on metal. No glass. No frames. No distractions. Just a durable, high-gloss photo that feels three-dimensional. You'll wonder why we ever put glass over a photo before. We have matted prints and cards. We can also order any of their photos in canvas wrap.

Ok, folks. This one is a big announcement. We are grateful to partner with Barbeaux Fisheries to start stocking fresh-frozen Great Lakes fish! We are starting with a smaller inventory until we see how enthusiastic our community is about this. This week we have whitefish and yellow perch while supplies last! Come in and see us! Our resident jeweler had the day off yesterday, but that didn't stop these young ladies. We helped them find the tools they needed, and, after choosing their chain and charms, they pulled up a chair in the shop and made their own! It was fun to visit while they made a unique piece of jewelry that they loved.

If you stop in, you can select your chain or cord and the charms you want. We can either make it while you wait or have it ready for a later pick-up. Or...if you need it now, and Christy isn't in the shop, you can take a swing at it yourself! (You probably don't want Rob making it.)

Many have asked about the barrel of old charts we have in the corner here at the Old Icehouse Mercantile. They are old navigation charts, and they are for sale! We have only just begun to catalog over 200 charts that we have. Here's the details...

1. They range from the 1940's to around 1980, and condition varies, but they're all still intact. Some tears. Some crush or fold damage. Some have a little water damage.

2. About 50 of them are Canadian published charts.

3. The two LCI maps we found are staying in our private collection, and are currently being framed for the mercantile wall. HOWEVER, we have ordered copies of the LCI chart #14885 for retail sales, and will have them here soon. We also ordered some re-prints of some older charts that should look great on your wall, and make cool gifts.

4. If you're patient, I'm happy to go scrounge for a chart you desire. But you will need to be patient, especially if the store is busy. I've sorted them by lake, but they're not cataloged yet.

5. We also have some sounding survey blueprints of some Lake Michigan harbors. They're super cool and unique. They will be handled differently for selling, and won't be separated from their grouping. I know we have some Green Bay, Indiana Harbor, and Manitowoc.

6. I think we have just about every bit of the Great Lakes. We even have a bunch of St. Lawrence Seaway, Welland, Niagra, and some other rivers.

These soaps are something special! Made in Au Gres by our friend Alecia from Down the Path Creations, these soaps are a staple in our household. Chock-full of natural ingredients like oats, kaolin clay, and coconut oil, they're gentle enough to be used by all ages and still look good sitting in a shower or by the sink!
