Another mystery: Here's an interesting quartz cluster that is obviously coated with something, but our inventory identifies it only as "quartz." What is that grayish coating, can anyone venture a guess?

Yesterday (June 21, 2026) was the first official day of Summer. Here in Florida, Summer = Sun = Heat. Here are three stones that have correspondences with the Sun, L to R: small rough pieces of orange calcite, a reconstituted amber sphere, and a beautiful citrine tower. Orange calcite is a sacral chakra stone that is said to translate creativity into action. Amber is a root and solar plexus chakra stone that is said to be stone of ancient wisdom that helps connect to the natural world. Citrine is a solar plexus chakra stone that is said to increase self-esteem and productivity. All are available here at the Rock Shop--come see!

Happy Summer Solstice and Happy Father's Day! Today (Sunday, June 21, 2026) is the longest day of the year and also the USA's annual observance that honors the fathers in our lives. It's also the last day of the Rock Shop's carved gemstone animal and fossil sale; take 20% off any of those items until 5 p.m. today. Here's a very large ammonite that you can find in one of our display cases. Ammonites are fossilized ocean-dwelling mollusks that went extinct approximately 66 million years ago. They are said to activate and connect with earth energies.

This big, impressive malachite sphere commands attention in the Rock Shop's front room. Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral that is associated with the heart and solar plexus chakras and is said to protect against negative energies, to aid emotional balance, and to boost self-confidence. The Rock Shop's owners specialize in importing malachite from Africa and we have some really spectacular pieces available.

Whoa! Here is a large piece of blue kyanite from Brazil. Linked to all the chakras --especially to the third eye and causal chakras--blue kyanite is said to be an excellent "way finder" for travelers both physical and psychic. An aluminum silicate mineral, blue kyanite has associations with all the elements--earth, air, fire, water, and spirit--with the planet Mercury, and with the Zodiac signs Libra and Sagittarius.

We thought we were out of sugilite tumbles, but we recently discovered this small batch of stones in a flat with some of our rough sugilite specimens. Such tumbles are hard to find now but they are absolutely gorgeous with that deep purple color. Sugilite is a rare potassium sodium lithium iron manganese aluminum silicate mineral that comes out of the deep manganese mines in South Africa, even though it was originally discovered in Japan. Associated with the heart, higher heart, third eye and crown chakras, sugilite is said to release trauma, stabilize and elevate the heart chakra, transmute harmful energies and improve intuition, psychic skills and visualization.

Spirit and cathedral quartz seem to be appropriate items to post on a Sunday. Spirit quartz, also called cactus quartz, is an upper chakra stone that is said to uplift moods, to invite harmony, to promote generosity and compassion ,and to invite planetary healing. Cathedral quartz, also called light library quartz, is said to promote spiritual awareness and understanding and to assist with reading the Akashic records.
