Smoky quartz is silicon dioxide with aluminum, lithium, or sodium. It's an earth star and root chakra stone that is said to boost focus, combat stress, provide grounding energy, and improve manifestation. These stones are small enough to carry and their smokiness seems to glimmer in the light. One of these is going home with a Rock Shop staff member; can you guess which one? (Yes, all of us who work here shop here, too-some of us more than others LOL!)

Cathedral quartz was named because a single quartz crystal grows in such a way that it resembles castle turrets or organ pipes. It's linked to the crown chakra and is said to be connected to universal knowledge and ancient records. We can imagine this large specimen being placed on a home altar to represent earth energy, or being placed anywhere in a home or place of business to uplift the energy in the room.

Labradorite has such a beautiful sheen, called labradorescence. This is an all-chakra, all-element stone with correspondences to Jupiter, Neptune, Leo, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. Some say to place a large piece of Labradorite, like the one shown in the photo, in any place where you want to enhance imagination, channel creativity into concrete goals, and/or overcome depression. Labradorite is also said to help connect you to your spiritual purpose.

Happy Autumn Equinox! Here are some selenite mushrooms that are available at the Rock Shop, some of which can light up as shown in the photo. Selenite is the crystallized transparent variety of gypsum, a calcium sulfate mineral. It's associated with the crown and soul star chakras and is said to encourage insight, to clear the aura, and to protect and cleanse the home or sacred space. According to Ted Andrews in his book "Nature Speak" (in stock at the Rock Shop), mushrooms symbolize recycling and taking new approaches.

The Rock Shop's owners specialize in importing malachite from the Republic of the Congo in Africa and we have some really stunning pieces that include boxes and carved animals like the ones you see in this display. We also have botryoidal and chatoyant malachite in another display case. Malachite is a basic copper carbonate; it's a heart and solar plexus stone that is said to aid sleep and to be an excellent balancer on all levels. The patterns in these pieces are really gorgeous!
