But I’m not mad about it. Because LOOK THE DAHLIAS ARE COMING!!

Pest management has been on point this year and even the earwigs (prime suspect here) are relatively under control without chemicals getting all over your hands an nose.

This plant is an overwintered monster that is blooming weeks ahead of all the others. Guess I’ll be leaving plans in the ground this year for earlier 2027 dahlias.

Need a giant, fluffy, mauvy texture in your arrangements? Smokebush is your girl!

This giant treebush needs a hard trim every year - it’s called coppicing - and today was the day. Usually I do it in the spring but this year I wanted the fluffy bits, and this only show up on old wood. So, first day of summer it is.

Pray for her.

Just kidding. She’ll be fine.

I hope 😬🤞

It’s the weekend!! The Appalachian Trail Festival is a huge deal - a combo effort of three AT towns of Round Hill, Bluemont, and Hillsboro. We celebrate all things trail, including a lecture tonight (Friday!) by Nat Geo’s Adventurer of the Year who hiked the Triple Crown three times, artists inspired by the trail, a used gear sale, a silent auction, food and drink, and all kinds of local businesses and organizations that support the AT. Please come check it out on Saturday. It’s free, too!

Because of all the celebrations this weekend, Olive will move over to behind the OSS under the horse mural. That’s where we were for last year’s markets and it’s a great spot. I’ll be there too, so please come say hi!

Well, here we are. Canvas came with one defect and it’s exactly where the roof sags!

Many improvements coming to Olive the flower stand - I’ve bought the grommets, have the plan, just need a little help and time!

Olive the Hillsboro Flower Stand is open. The flowers are moved to the side and staying dry so far. There are some really beautiful, fluffy bouquets here today. You won’t regret brightening your home with one!

Thanks for bearing with me. Happy rainy Saturday!

It’s been two full weeks of heavy flower production from markets to Mothers Day to Gardens in the Gap Tea and even a wedding.

Now it’s 100* on a Monday and my heart is full and the flower cooler is empty.

Thank you to everyone that has supported this little sustainable cut flower business. Thank you to my friends in Lovettsville that were so generous with their gorgeous peonies for Mother’s Day. Thank you to all the happy souls that smiled - and even gave a little squeal - when they looked at the flowers. It lifted my heart every time!

Cheers to more joy coming your way.

A little bouquet practice with the surplus from the weekend. How good it feels to play!

These mock up bouquets have peonies, salvia, lambs ear, anemones, ranunculus, orlaya…all grown right here.

The rest of the day was dirt digging to get some long overdue dahlias in the ground! I wish it hadn’t taken me this long to plant them…but here we are.

Enjoy the light, friends. Just another month until it wanes.
