Having some tomato struggles? Blossom end rot, a sunken, leathery patch on the bottom of your tomatoes, is common. It's caused by a calcium deficiency — often triggered by heavy rain or a rapid growth spurt pulling calcium out of the soil before the fruit can use it. Some options to help. Calcium Nitrate granules to sprinkle on the ground around your tomato plants to add calcium back into the soil to be absorbed by your plants. Bonide Rot-Stop is a calcium spray built to get ahead of it: apply to healthy, developing foliage before the damage shows up, since it won’t undo rot that’s already set in. Tomato & Blossom Set help promote setting of blossoms and fruit development.

Ever walk through a screen door? So have I and I have one that needs repair from last year. Too bad I didn't have these magnetic screen savers back then..... Attached them to your screen as a reminder that there is a screen and to not walk through it. They are also a deterant for birds to help them from flying into windows. They come as a set of two and can also be used as a refrigerator magnet in the winter when you don't need them on your screens.

The past couple days have been so beautiful and a nice reprieve from the heat we've been experiencing. However, this will be changing as temperatures are expected to climb back into the upper 80's to low 90's. Please remember that anything you planted this year will struggle without extra watering. Trees especially use a lot of energy trying to get established and grow roots, so remember to keep watering them during the first couple summers as they get established. Here are some helpful watering tips:

-Water Early or Late: Water your garden in the early morning or late evening to minimize evaporation and ensure water reaches the roots efficiently.

-Deep Watering: Encourage deep root growth by watering deeply but infrequently. This helps plants become more drought-tolerant.

-Use Mulch: Mulching helps retain moisture in the soil, reduces evaporation, and keeps roots cool.

-Check Soil Moisture: Before watering, check the soil moisture by inserting your finger about an inch deep. If it feels dry, it’s time to water. If soil is very dry, water may run off. Wet the soil, let it soak in, and rewater about 10 minutes later.

-Avoid Overwatering: Too much water can be as harmful as too little, leading to root rot and other issues. Ensure good drainage and avoid waterlogging.

Struggling with Japanese Beetles? Yes, they are in mating season and a major nuisance and can make your trees, shrubs, and plants look horrible but there is hope.... Your trees and plants should survive. Leaves can grow back. There are some options to help battle the beetles.

Japanese Beetle bags use pheromones to lure the male beetles into the trap killing the beetles. The bags should be hung away from your gardens and trees to draw the beetles away and out of your yard. Sprays and powders can be sprayed onto plants to get rid of the beetles and reduce damage to your plants. There are a lot of other home remedies online.

Birds and chickens also eat the beetles.

Petunias looking leggy and drab, give them a haircut and nourishment! Don'tbe afraid to cut back your Petunias. It encourages bushier growth, flowering, and will extend your flowering season. Deadheading (removing spent bloons) is also very helpful. Simply, cut off the old bloom and seed pod below the flower. One of our favorite fertilizers is Jack's Petunias feed and we fertilizer weekly.

We have other fertilizer options for your plant, tree, & shrubs care needs. Including products from Fertilome, Espoma, Hi Yield, Fox Farm, Coast of Main, Captain Jacks, Osmocote, Super Thrive, and worm castings.
