My Etsy shop is temporarily closed due to the derecho that devastated Northwest Indiana on Tuesday, August 11th. We have not had power since then and have no way to process orders. America’s Antique Mall in Highland is also temporarily closed.

Overall we are ok. Our house is ok. We had trees down in the yard and they have been taken care of. My husband was out of state for work and made it home safely.

School was supposed to start on Wednesday, August 12. Now we’re looking at this coming Tuesday at the absolute earliest. My son is starting his senior year and I work at one of the elementary schools. My son’s summer job has closed early due to damage.

Many restaurants and food trucks have been opening and giving away free meals. Communities are coming together and helping each other. We have linemen and crews coming in from across the country to help.

And the National Guard is here. They were on our street yesterday taking trees off power lines. We have/had at least 5 trees on the lines just on our street. Everywhere you go, there are trees down. Huge trees snapped in half or completely uprooted. This derecho was historic and spanned many towns.
