What another beautiful year at The Great New York State Fair. We held space for two weeks under the trees at the Haudenosaunee Village. Where we took the opportunity to demonstrate every part of the process including log pounding on some black ash which everyone seems to enjoy watching, The process of shaving and splitting our splints, using the shave horse to make our handles and then the process of steaming and bending them for each type of basket, and also showing the different types of baskets we used for example the corn washing basket and the pack basket both of them were very important for both transportation and preparation of food.
A big Niawenkowa to Edi and Kev for the tremendous help you were to the 4 of us with our living situation and to everyone else this year for making it possible!
Quills N Baskets has something big in the works for next year as you know for last three years we did everything outdoors under a canopy at the fair and we were told that we are receiving our own basket makers 🛖 so be on the lookout for us in the village next year as we take our place beside the Medicine women outside the Six Nations Crafter’s building.
Another big Niawenkowa to Ashley and Heath for making us feel at home 🏠
