Chill Baskets

Chill Baskets I recently decided to pursue my love of making baskets full-time. I learned how to make baskets shortly after my youngest daughter was born.

My husband had worked outside the home; he was artistic, could build and fix things, play guitar. He basically a jack of all trades and I was a stay at home mother. Being a stay at home mother is a very important job, but I felt like I had wanted something that was just for me. I asked my Aunt if she would teach me how to make baskets, a skill that has been in my family for many generations, and s

he agreed. When I wove my first basket it felt like something that I was supposed to be doing, like I was made for it because it came very easily to me. I soon fell in love with making baskets and now here I am 8 years later pursuing it as a full time "job," if you will. I also now teach my own classes, perform demonstrations, and even offer restorations as part of my skill set. I feel that even though I am engaging in a traditional practice, I am putting my own modern and contemporary spin on things while being true to the Mohawk basketry.
