This one is a trip... go with me.

So our local writer and bookshop friend Jean Davis did a major stock up last week - when you've published over 20 titles, all of the stockups seem to be pretty big - and it reminded me: another bookshop friend and book club organizer just bought the Grafschaap antique shop Nob Hill Too , and Tory had just posted something that would be perfect for highlighting Jean's books... Chicken Dishes!

So I went down to visit for the first time since Tory took over, and she still had a whole display of them! But right next to the glass chickens was this other display case full of gorgeous carnival glass pieces. Tory lamented that she wasn't sure if Holland was the right place for them - they are a little dark and gothic when compared to the rest of the vintage glass she had in store.

This style might not be popular with Tory's Holland... but I know they will be with our Holland. And it reminded me:

We are all shaped by the experiences we have, and those can drastically change the way we see our world. Books will always help us to expand our views and see beyond who we are to who we can be, so the next time you stop in, maybe pick a book out that isn't your usual genre or viewpoint. Change "my world" to "our world".

And go buy a chicken from Tory. 😆

Posing like a man with his fish because one of my favorite authors is in the shop…in abundance! I picked up Peony in Love at a used book shop probably 10 years ago, and since then Lisa See has been an author I will blind read any title from. I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction, and Lisa See is an author who perfects that for me with her mastery of blending a historical setting and complex relationships. She has novels that explore familial relationships, sisterhood, friendship, as well as romantic love. At the center of all these stories is always a woman, navigating these relationships, overcoming hardships, and discovering truths about herself. If you’ve never tried a book by See, I can’t recommend strongly enough! Check my recommendation cubby to find your next read 😉

We know you all love a mystery bag! We're filling our bargain bags as fast as they're going out the door!

What's a mystery bargain bag? It's a selection of our fifty-cent bargain books, gathered in one bag with others that match our prompt (like "historical fiction", or "get outside", or "committed to the grind") for a price that is lower than buying them all individually! It's like a bag sale, but curated.

These bags are perfect for finding new authors, new perspectives, or new stock for your Little Free Library!

A couple years ago, a friend told me a story about a week long house sitting for their sibling. During the week, they hid 200 tiny ducks around the house in some obvious spots and some spots that were definitely NOT. Occasionally, even weeks later, they would get a text from their sibling - sometimes with just a number, sometimes with an exclamation of "why were you in the ATTIC?!?!"

I would like you to just imagine the long-suffering sigh that escaped me when Ryan introduced these sets of "Duck Hunt" to the bookshop... Yes, they're for sale. Please get them out before I start finding 🦆 all over the bookshop.

POV: You walk into Bluestocking and leave smelling like your best decisions.

The Summer scents at the fragrance bar are ready for you to craft a perfect blend, or you can use one of our suggestions:
🫧 Say It Again is inspired by shop favorite author Tessa Bailey, whose dialogue will definitely have you updating your own romantic language;
🐉 In The Clouds (and the new sleeping dragons you can find around the shop) are encouraging the dragon-rider we all wish we could be;
🏖 Beach Read is for when your book takes you away from the office you're actually spending summer break in; and
☀️ Litha wishes you blessings on the longest day!
