Sometimes a spooky book doesn't LOOK like a spooky book...

WHAT IF YOUR HOLIDAY SHOPPING LIST INCLUDED A CLASSROOM?

This year, Bluestocking is asking our community to give something teachers can actually use: books for their students.

Local educators are submitting wishlists of up to 10 books they'd love to add to their classrooms and libraries. Starting now, you can Fund a Book by purchasing a specific requested title. You pay for it, we order it, we wrap it. No mystery donation of books they can't actually use, or gift card that disappears into the general fund. An actual book, chosen by an actual educator, going to an actual classroom.

Starting this weekend, you can stop into the shop and pick out a tag for a book you want to fund for a local classroom. Can't wait for the weekend - or can't get into the shop? We have a list on Bookshop.org for our Holiday Bookshelf Drive at our link in bio!

Teachers shouldn't have to build their classroom libraries out of their own pockets - we can help.

Destiny found some of her favorites on the shelves this week...

Pucking Around- "Ilona Maher may have said she would want this deleted off her e-reader when she dies...not me though, I want everyone to read it. At least, everyone who thinks they might like a hockey romance where our female main character has three boyfriends, and two of those boyfriends are also boyfriends ☺️

For Whom the Belle Tolls- "A super fun (and steamy) fantasy romance, where our main character dies in chapter 1, and spends the rest of the book in the afterlife. Which is...much different than she expected. She finds herself drawn to hell, where she sets up the "Hellp" desk, and gets to live out every customer service worker's fantasy-- letting the customer know they are not in fact, always right."

Jesus and John Wayne- "I love to keep a non-fiction book in rotation, and while I wouldn't call this a *fun* read, I would say it is an incredibly important time to read it...for no particular reason. "

Mel Fell- "An excellent read aloud book that reminds us it's ok to fall before we learn to fly!"

Divine Rivals- "I sometimes fall into the trap of thinking "if they wanted to read this, they would have by now..." Fighting that urge so that I can gush about this beautiful duology! An enchanted typewriter connects two rivals as they report on the frontlines of a war between gods."

I thought today would be the perfect day to seize control of socials since Aimee and Ryan are currently miles away for a bookseller conference; besides, another takeover is due.

So I heard that they make tall books for taller book nerds; as chance would have it, we recently acquired some. I reckoned I would check them out during my shift...hopefully no one will mind... 🫣😬

Apparently some books are still considered "too dangerous" for people to read. Fortunately, we're very bad at taking orders about what other people should read. This week, as we do all year, we're celebrating books that have been challenged, banned, questioned, complained about, and generally treated like they personally offended someone (who has likely never read the book they are challenging, they're just following orders...)

Wherever you are, celebrate Banned Books this week by visiting your local library or indie bookstore and picking up one of the over 4000 titles challenged nationally last year.
