Today marks the beginning of the Rendalen Brass Seminar founded by Bente Illevold!

Taking place in Norway, the Rendalen Brass Seminar brings together international top-level artists and pedagogues, and combines teaching, ensemble playing and concerts. It is designed to grow into a recurring platform with long-term impact in the Scandinavian low brass community.

Bente plays a Custom Shires Euphonium and says,

My Shires Custom Euphonium truly combines the best of all worlds, blending exceptional clarity and response with vast expressive possibilities. It allows me to shape color, depth, and character freely, and its lyrical qualities make it possible for me to create a sound that feels deeply personal and uniquely my own.

Some euphoniums project. The Q40S envelops.

With a larger 12-inch yellow brass bell and a broader taper, the Shires Q40S delivers a warm, rich timbre that fills the room and wraps around every note. Open, free-blowing, and at home in any ensemble or solo setting, this is a sound that speaks for itself.

Brass alloys are more than just metal...they shape the voice of every instrument. Each blend of copper and zinc (or silver) brings out unique tonal colors and response:

🔔Yellow Brass (70/30): Clear, pure tone with consistent color across dynamics
🔔 Deutsch Brass: A Shires custom alloy blend between yellow brass and gold brass that combines characteristics of yellow and gold brass for balanced and warm sound.
🔔 Gold Brass (85/15): Combines many of the characteristics of yellow and red brass for a very balanced and flexible sound
🔔 Red Brass (90/10): Warm, rich resonance with complex overtones
🔔 Sterling Silver: Brilliant clarity, dense core, and a powerful fundamental

Every alloy tells a different story... which one speaks to you?
