Spring Cleaning Without Chemicals – Norwex Style – Part 2 of 2

Picking up where we left off in part 1, we continue the 10-Step Guide with tips to help you clean the entire house without toxic chemicals.

Step 6: Kitchen time. Remove everything from the refrigerator and wipe the shelves, walls and cubbies with a damp EnviroCloth. Next wipe out and organize the freezer. Brush the crumbs onto the floor; we will get them later. Remove contents from cabinets, wiping down the shelves, and replacing items in an organized fashion. Now wipe down counters remembering to get under everything.

Wipe down the stove top and front with a damp EnviroCloth. Clean the inside of the oven with Norwex Oven & Grill Cleaner. Finally, polish your sink working from the top down. Start by wiping down the faucet and handle(s), the rim of the sink and down towards the drain with a damp EnviroCloth and some Cleaning Paste. Lastly, dry the sink rim and polish the faucet to remove water spots with a dry EnviroCloth.

Tip: As you organize refrigerator and pantry items, take note of expiration dates and dispose of the expired stuff.

Tip: Stove k***s usually pull straight off to allow for cleaning behind them.

Tip: If applicable, remove stovetop elements and drip bowels. Wash them in the sink using Norwex dishwashing soap and a Norwex SpiriSponge. Soak drip bowels if necessary.

Step 7: Bathroom time. Start with the vanity lights using a damp EnviroCloth on the fixture and bulb before they get too hot. Now wipe down the mirror with a damp EnviroCloth and next with a dry WindowCloth. Remove everything from the counter top. Wipe down the counters and sink(s) using Blue Diamond All In One Bathroom Cleaner and an EnviroCloth. Polish the faucet and wipe everything with a damp EnviroCloth as you repopulate the counter top.

Turn your attention to the toilet by wiping it down in this order: tank top, handle and sides, toilet seat and bowl rim, outside of bowl and down to the floor with Blue Diamond and an EnviroCloth. For the toilet bowl interior, use the Norwex Sanira Toilet Brush System with Blue Diamond. Now to tackle the tub and/or shower. Start by spraying shower doors, shower walls and tub surface with Norwex’s Descaler to remove soap scum and hard water stains. Finally, wipe down the tub or shower floor with Blue Diamond and rinse.

Tip: Remember to also spray faucet handles and showerheads with Norwex Descaler to remove hard water deposits.

Tip: Allow Descaler to soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Using a damp EnviroCloth, wipe descaler off before it dries.

Tip: Remember to wipe the switch plates, door handles and smudges from doors before moving on.

Step 8: Bedroom time. Dust and tidy bedrooms from the top down. Clean your mattress using the Norwex Mattress Cleaner, then rotate and flip the mattress to even out wear.

Tip: Take this time to air out your mattress pad and blankets.

Tip: Free up valuable space by donate unused items.

Step 9: Everything Else. Vacuum sofas and fabric chairs with a brush attachment. Launder decorative pillows if possible, or take them outside and shake or brush them off. Dust all furniture and electronics from top down with an EnviroCloth Dusting Mitt.

Step 10: Bottoms Up. We saved the floor for last so that everything dusted and de-soiled has fallen to the floor. Start with the vacuum on hard surfaces using the brush attachment. Take special care to get the corners, edges, under furniture and appliances. Next tackle the carpeted areas with the spinning brush set to the appropriate height for the style of carpet. Again, take special care to get corners, edges, and under furniture. Wash the floors with a damp Norwex Wet Mop. As the floors dry, reclaim the rugs from outside and place them back where they belong.

Tip: Move furniture where possible to ensure a thorough cleaning.

Tip: For accumulation where the carpet meets the baseboard, use the crevice tool on your vacuum.

Voilà! That’s all there is to it! Now sit back and relax in your safe haven. Whole house cleaned and not one toxic chemical used. Congratulations on a job well done!

SPRING CLEANING WITHOUT CHEMICALS – NORWEX STYLE – PART 1 OF 2

It’s spring-cleaning time! We created this 10-Step Guide to help you transform your home without the use of toxic chemicals. Take note of the handy tips with each step to make the job easier!

Step 1: Gather yourself. Assemble all your cleaning tools and products before you start.

Step 2: Air it out. If weather permits, open those windows and let the fresh air in while you clean.

Step 3: Top Down Approach. Ceiling fans, lights, nooks and crannies, those hard to reach places can accumulate lots of dust. Utilizing the Norwex EnviroWand and Dusting Mitt will help knock out those tall tasks in a jiffy.

Tip: Working from ceiling to floor will ensure you don’t have to clean anything twice.

Tip: Don’t forget about the window coverings. Remove curtains and other fabric coverings and wash them according to their instruction tags. The Norwex Dusting Mitt helps to make short work of cleaning blinds too. Just remember to get both sides.

Step 4: From the windows to the walls. Gently dust your walls, doors, trim and molding with the Norwex mop and conversion kit. Next tackle the windows. Start by removing the window screens, laying them on the driveway or grass and spray them with a high velocity garden hose attachment on both sides. While the screens are drying, clean your windows using a damp EnviroCloth and follow up with a dry WindowCloth. Replace the screens and proceed.

Tip: A damp EnviroCloth also works wonders to remove the grime on switch plates, doork***s and doors where hands frequent.

Step 5: Calling all matted rugs and rugged mats. Start a laundry load of machine washable rugs. Gather your larger rugs and es**rt them outside. If the rug is small enough, you can shake it or beat it vigorously to remove dirt and grime. For larger rugs, drape them over a handrail or outdoor furniture and use the Norwex Rubber Brush to brush dirt out and fluff the fibers.

Tip: Leave rugs outside until the very end when you clean the floors so they aren’t in the way.

Tip: Sunlight and some baking soda, sprinkled and vacuumed up works wonders to freshen most odors.
