If there was one thing my heart wishes for you to take away from this RGN space, it's that kids are capable.
We have brainwashed at least 3 generations worth of parents that kids will only eat "kid food." And I'm here to tell you that children can grow up loving traditional, real foods.
We need to give kids more credit. They are capable of a better palate than Frosted Flakes and Trix yogurt. If you are a new momma just starting to follow this blog, I emplore you to stand your ground. You don't have to do what the commercials are selling your kids.
You want a kid with a broad taste palate? You, dear momma, get to control the food that comes into your house and across the plate of your little ones. Of course, if you train a toddler's palate for cereal or Poptarts, that's all they'll eat.
I want you to know this is possible, and that IT IS SO WORTH IT.
Did I question myself sometimes when they were little, when it looked just so much easier to pull that box of cereal out? Of course I did. I mean, come on...I grew up eating that way...how bad could it be?
Y'all, it took me forEVER to learn how to enjoy real food. My kids still have a broader taste palate than I do. I spent the entire decade of my 20's healing what a childhood of processed food did to a growing child.
Deep for a Thursday? Yep. But sometimes, I needed a wake up call reminder like this on days when I just didn't want to make another homemade meal. I needed to hear from another mom going against the grain telling me that it's worth it. I'm here to be that encouragement for you today that I so desperately needed back then.
So, dear momma, that wonders if it's worth it? Look at this 14 year old & know it is possible. Do my kids love a scoop or ice cream or a slice of birthday cake at a party? You bet! But on most days, they are asking for nourishing, nutrient dense food.
I promise it's worth it. Stick to your guns. Don't get too legalistic (because that isn't worth it either), but shower your kids with a love of real food. You won't be sorry ❤
