Some of the classes coming to the studio were inspired by conversations with you: projects you wanted to try, materials you were curious about, and creative experiences you hoped to see on the schedule.

That’s one of my favorite parts of building this studio. It isn’t simply about deciding what to offer—it’s about listening to what sparks your interest and finding ways to bring those ideas to life.

Our upcoming classes include projects you’ve specifically asked for, like Tide & Timber: Resin Ocean Serving Platter and Flow & Finish: Acrylic Pour Coasters.

So keep sharing your ideas with me. You never know when your creative wish might become the next class at Jody Baker Studio.

When I imagined Jody Baker Studio, I wanted to create a place where people could discover something new, create in their own way, and connect—with art, with one another, and with this community.

Today, I watched that vision come to life.

People arrived specifically to paint pottery. Our Sunflower Watercolor Study class was full. A young woman brought in her own candle vessels and favorite scent to create something completely personal. And a customer came in looking specifically for Polish pottery because a friend had told her she could find it here.

Discover. Create. Connect.

Today held all three—and all the things I hoped this studio could become.

It wasn’t just a busy day. It was one of those beautiful moments when I could step back, look around, and realize: this is happening. The studio is becoming the creative gathering place I dreamed it could be.

To everyone who visited, created, took a class, made a purchase, shared the studio with a friend, or continues to cheer me on—thank you. You are helping bring this dream to life, one connection at a time. 💛

Shelle is a studio potter based in Honeoye Falls. Her functional stoneware is wheel-thrown, altered by hand, and created to be used and enjoyed every day—but no two pieces will ever be exactly alike.

Each piece is decorated with slips and oxides before being fired to approximately 2,350 degrees in Shelle’s 30-cubic-foot salt and soda kiln. The firing alone takes about 28 hours, followed by another two to three days of cooling.

Inside the kiln, flame, temperature, oxygen, and even the placement of each pot help shape the final surface. The result is beautifully unpredictable—something Shelle describes as “alchemy.”

Shelle has studied at Penland School of Craft and with influential North Carolina potters, and she continues to share her love of clay through private lessons, classes at Flower City Arts Center, and workshops.

Many of you may already know Shelle from the classes she has taught here at the studio. I’m thrilled that you can now discover—and take home—her beautifully functional pottery, too.

Stop in and experience her work in person. Each piece carries the marks of the maker, the movement of the flame, and a story completely its own.

Owning a small business means making decisions every single day—some exciting, some difficult, and some that keep me awake at night wondering if I made the right choice.

It means trying to predict the future, managing expectations, taking risks, adjusting plans, and trusting my instincts even when there isn’t a clear answer.

There are sleepless nights, long days, and plenty of moments when the responsibility feels heavy. But there are also moments when I look around this studio and see people creating, connecting, laughing, and trying something new—and I know exactly why I keep going.

I wouldn’t trade a moment of this journey.

To every person who has walked through the door, taken a class, painted pottery, purchased something handmade, shared a post, recommended the studio, or simply offered a kind word: thank you.

Your support allows me to keep building this creative space, one decision—and one brave step—at a time. 💛

This month, you can learn to sew, design jewelry with someone special, explore watercolor, create your own Bills gear, make beautiful wooden flowers, or bring the ocean to life with resin.

But what you make is only part of the experience.

The studio is a place to slow down, try something new, laugh with friends, meet creative people, and enjoy a little time that’s completely different from the rest of your week.

No experience needed—just curiosity.

Which August experience is calling your name?

She's plugged in, tested, and officially ready to work.

My new kiln might look like a piece of equipment, but to me, it represents something much bigger.

It's an investment in Jody Baker Studio and in my belief that this little creative community is continuing to grow.

But it's also an investment in YOU.

More pottery painting. More birthday celebrations. More handmade gifts. More first attempts. More "I can't believe I made that!" moments. And more opportunities for people to gather around our tables and create together.

Investing in a small business can be a little scary. But seeing what's been happening in the studio lately—people trying new things, returning for another experience, bringing friends, and booking celebrations—made this investment feel like the right next step.

I can't wait to see everything we create together in this kiln.

She's ready. And so am I. 💛

A gentleman stopped into the studio this weekend looking for clip-on earrings for his wife's birthday.

He'd been searching and simply couldn't find what he was looking for.

I didn't have any either.

But I did have an idea.

So I spent the morning making three different pairs for him to choose from.

Mission accomplished. 💛

This is one of my favorite parts of owning a small business.

Sometimes what someone needs isn't sitting on a shelf. Sometimes it's listening, getting a little creative, and figuring out how to help.

He left with a birthday gift made especially for his wife.

And I left pretty happy that we'd figured it out together.

That's what community looks like to me.
