We are proud to say our Hawaiian Happy Cake products contain *zero artificial food dyes* & *zero High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)*. These synthetic additives are common in many commercial baked goods, snacks, and processed foods — but we believe in using only real, natural ingredients.
*Why we avoid artificial food dyes*
Petroleum-derived colors, Research has associated them with:
- Increased hyperactivity, inattentiveness, restlessness, and behavioral changes in some children. Including both kids with ADHD & the general population (supported by the 2007 Lancet trial and California’s OEHHA reports)
- Allergic reactions, hives, itching, migraines & asthma-like symptoms in sensitive individuals
- Possible gut microbiome disruption, inflammation & other effects shown in studies
- Regulatory attention, including EU warning labels about effects on children’s activity & attention
*Why we avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)*
HFCS is a highly processed sweetener made from corn starch. Unlike traditional sugars, it’s linked to several health concerns when consumed in excess:
- Promotes increased fat production in the liver (especially visceral/abdominal fat)
- Contributes to elevated triglycerides, insulin resistance, and higher risk of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, & fatty liver disease
- May drive more weight gain & inflammation compared to other sweeteners in some studies (Princeton)
- Can disrupt appetite regulation & gut microbiome balance
At Hawaiian Happy Cakes, we do not use these artificial dyes or HFCS — in any of our products. Our beautiful golden color & rich flavor come naturally from real Hawaiian pineapple & quality ingredients, in our cookies & all cake variations.
