Hawaiian Collectibles

Hawaiian Collectibles For over forty years, Steve Goodenow, a well known private detective in Hawaii, has collected Hawaiian artifacts.

In 1992 he opened a Honolulu Gallery and Collectible Store iknown as Hawaiian Stones & Artifacts (HSA). Presently located near downtown Honolulu at 736 South Street, The Gallery offers a wide range of Hawaiian Artifacts and Bottles. Items are offerd for sale at The Gallery as well as on The Gallery's eBay store. With contacts throughout the Hawaiian Islands, Steve has assembled many rare Hawaiian

artifacts such as fish hooks, calabash bowls, Hawaiian poi pounders, lamps and stone implements, as well as major collections of feather work and Hawaiian bottles. Steve has assisted major hotels, schools, businesses and collectors in the assembly and display of their collections and is one of the most respected collectors in Hawaii. Working with collectors, insurance companies, and estates and the legal profession, Steve has appraised many of Hawaii's well known artifact collections. Steve has donated artifacts to the Bishop Museum and 'Imiloa at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Although I created the Hawaiian Collectible Facebook site years ago I really paid it no attention. Meanwhile I closed my Gallery and moved most of the collection of artifacts to my eventual retirement home. I still actively buy and sell artifacts and try to educate those with questions. As an example within the last 6 months I have purchased two major Hawaiian artifact collections. One was a Maui and Oahu based collection and the most recent a Kauai collection. Of course the Kauai collection has many artifacts particular to Kauai such as hematite sinkers, ring pounders and of course stirrup pounders. I will be posting some of the collection soon. One of the Maui artifacts was a koa election ballot box from the middle 1800's, the only one known which was used in the Lunaliho vs Kalakaua election in the 1870's. I donated it to the State of Hawaii Archives where it belongs.

I've added a few photos of the Kauai collection.

I will try to add more posts and be responsive to those that inquire. Best way to reach me is via email at hawaiiancollectibles.com.

Aloha, Steve
