This is a post to try and explain what has happened to the floral industry over time.

I received a call from a distraught out of state customer Friday morning. She was trying to locate her order that she believed she had placed online with my shop. As I tried to explain that we do not have those capabilities online she informed me that she had been given my number by contacting the company online by the phone number they provided. I tried again to explain that this was The Picket Fence in Hope AR. She told me no that she was calling the BLOSSOM in Prescott. After several questions to her to try and help her find answers this is what we determined. She had ordered online with a false page we refer to as ORDER GATHERERS. In the pictures she provided to me from her computer screen you can clearly see what she believed to be true. There is no Blossoms in Prescott that his been voted #1 flower shop three years in a row. There are no Ruth's or Avas that are family owned and operated.

After explaining to the customer that I would help her and that as soon as her bank opens she needs to flag the online transaction. I contacted Blossoms phone number and pretended to be a customer. I asked them if they were in Prescott ar and she replied yes we are. I asked if it could be delivered today and she said yes it would. I asked her again where are you located in Prescott. Reply was we are centrally located. If you are familiar with Prescott then you know that it's so small everything is centrally located!

I then identified myself as an actual flower shop owner. She tried to then say she was in central Arkansas but refused to name a city.

As a flower shop owner for many years I had made the decision to drop all wire services and refuse order gatherer request. The receiving florist is asked to design a $100 arrangement for around $40. Obviously the customer is dissatisfied and blames the local florist instead of the online service. The online order gatherer then disputes the credit card charge and the local shop receives $0.

There once were 5 flower shops in Hope and 6 (yes 6) in Prescott. Because of the online presence those numbers are now
2 Hope... The Picket Fence & Hope Floral
2 Prescott.... Prescott Floral & Effies

As a small business owner I can say that your business is greatly appreciated. This post is to shed some light on what is happening when you order from order gatherers. Give your favorite local shop a call and they will be happy to help you.
