This is the moment we hoped for. 🧔

Those tiny black, white, and yellow caterpillars are future MONARCH BUTTERFLIES and they’re here because we planted milkweed.

Monarch caterpillars can’t survive without it. Milkweed is their only host plant, meaning it’s the only plant their caterpillars can eat.

Planting native plants isn’t just about making something beautiful.

It’s about creating habitat.
It’s about restoring what’s disappearing.
It’s about giving the next generation of monarchs somewhere to begin. šŸŒæšŸ¦‹

Plant the milkweed.
They WILL find it. 🧔

The swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) I’ve planted in the garden has grown beautifully. Transplanted at the beginning of June into the garden from The Bloomery greenhouse, it grew quickly and bloomed out with abundant blooms. The pollinators have been covering it daily!

Did you know…

Not all native seeds and native plants are created equal.

Our Kentucky ecotype Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) originates from genetics adapted to Kentucky’s climate, seasons, soils, and growing conditions.

Why does ecotype matter? Locally adapted plants are naturally synchronized with their environment, from emergence and flowering time to dormancy and seasonal weather patterns. That matters not only for plant performance, but also for the pollinators and wildlife that depend on these plants at specific times of the year.

Swamp Milkweed is an important host plant for monarch butterflies and provides valuable nectar for a wide range of native pollinators.

Plant native. Plant local.

Amaryllis Bulb Fundraiser

We are gaging interest… what do you all think about us adding a Christmas fundraiser with amaryllis bulbs? Tell us if your group would participate!

I bought this one in March and this is the third round of blooms. Notice that the bulb is dipped in wax and comes on a stand. You can get these dipped in fun Christmas colors and designs. They do not require soil, water or sunlight. They put out new blooms over and over again! Another perk, is that if you have someone purchase out of state, you can ship it to them easily! They make great Christmas presents in addition to your own Christmas decor. Tell me what you think. Do you think we should add this to our list of fundraisers?
