This week's feature artisans are KIRSTEN KLAUS & BARRY KAPP!

Kirsten Klaus and Barry Kapp have been helping people heal themselves with plants and higher consciousness for over 40 years. Kirsten’s passion is growing medicinal herbs. She is dedicated to herb farming the exploration of natural farming methods. Our farm is southeast of Hot Springs. We use permaculture methods to grow our herbs as wild-like as possible in harmony with Gaia. All of our work is lovingly done by hand. Our herbal medicinals are crafted in small batches the traditional way. We put utmost love and high frequency into everything we do.

Learn to draw the local wildlife! This class will take you through the steps for drawing a Western Meadowlark from a reference photo, using colored pencils. The class is taught with a focus on technique, with the goal of equipping students to create original artwork from their own reference photos.

All materials are provided. No experience necessary; this is a beginner-friendly class that is open to students of all skill levels. Recommend for ages 12-adult. Materials are available for purchase after the class, but not required.

This week's feature artisan is LLOYD BUCCHOLZ!

I am originally from Avon, SD, but live in Sioux Falls. I have been doing stain glass for at least 25 years. In the winter, my wife and I spend our time in McAllen, TX. In McAllen, a friend and I have been teaching stain glass classes for the past 25 years+. We have trained many people and many have gone on to become stain glass artists.

You will have the opportunity to pick beautiful pieces of glass from Hot Springs' stained glass store, Black Hills Glassworks.

Learn how to cut glass, assemble, solder and finish wonderful cactus/succulent pieces using the "Tiffany" method of copper foiling. THey will look amazing sitting in your window!

This week's feature artisan is DEBBIE SHANNON!

Deborah Shannon has enjoyed drawing and painting since elementary school. She also made and sold jewelry. She moved to Hot Springs with her husband in 2008. She didn’t get serious about pursuing her art again until 2020. She starting painting on phone grips and was amazed when she sold some. She than branched out and painted on wine glasses and mugs. She is selling her items in three venues in Hot Springs and on FaceBook Marketplace. She is so excited that her hobby has become a business and is enjoying every minute of it.

Introduction to Scandinavian Flat Plane Carving with Travis Vickers

Date: July 18 & 19 (2 day class)
Time: 8:30 am - 5 pm (with 1⁄2 hour for lunch)

Beginning and intermediate wood carvers will be introduced to the Scandinavian Flat Plane style of carving. Students will learn some basic cuts then will be led step by step through carving a six inch tall, full body caricature. A large number of examples will be provided by the instructor for inspiration and discussion purposes. Painting and finishing techniques will be covered. A $10.00 material fee can be paid to the instructor for a carving blank. Students will need to arrive for class with a carving knife and a kevlar glove. Carving gloves and a quality, entry level, flat plane carving knife can be purchased from TreelineUSA.com or Mountainwoodcarvers.com . I would recommend Flexcut or OCC brands with a 1-1⁄2” to 1-3⁄4” blade. Don't go smaller than 1-1⁄2”. If you decide you don't like carving, I will happily buy the knife from you!
Students will need to arrive for class with a carving knife and a kevlar glove.
