Today is the end of Banned Books Week, a week raising awareness about the harms of censorship. We’re teaming up with Librofm and Silent Book Club to host a Banned Books Read-In to protest book censorship today (October 10th). Swing by the shop! Hang out and read a bit anywhere between noon and 5:30 pm.

Attendees will also receive a free audiobook from Libro.fm.

You can bring your own banned book (audiobooks count, of course!), buy a new book from our banned book shelf, or listen to your free audiobook!

The weather forecast is looking sunny and warm--very warm!!-- so you may enjoy sitting outside to read, too. Get a tasty treat and read on this warm fall day!

It is banned book week! Remember, we've got a year-round banned books display! We couldn't possibly put every book on this shelf that has been banned as there are far too many, but it's a good place to start. You've probably even read a few of them already!

Some quick data from the American Library Association:

"In 2025, 92% of all book challenges were initiated by pressure groups, government officials and decision makers, up from 72% in 2024. Less than 3% of challenges originated from individual parents." (Check out ala (dot) org for more information.)

This year’s Banned Books Week coincides with ALA’s official 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion, ALA has released a list of the 150 most challenged books documented from 1990, when ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom began tracking book challenges, through 2025.

The full list of the 150 most challenged books - those that have been targeted for restriction or removal in libraries and schools - spans contemporary titles such as "Gender Q***r: A Memoir" by Maia Kobabe and literary classics such as "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee and "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck.

“Every book on this list is a reminder that readers have the right to explore ideas and decide for themselves what to read,” said ALA President Maria McCauley. “For 150 years, ALA has worked alongside library workers to keep that choice open to everyone. We ask for support for our libraries so the next generation has that same freedom.”

See the full list at ala150.org/150books.
