🚨LONG POST🚨
The Exhaustion of Being Manic &
Finding Grace for the Mind I Didn’t Choose.
I want to talk about the exhaustion that comes with being manic most of the time.
People hear the word manic and sometimes think it means energy, creativity, motivation, or “getting a lot done.”
But what they don’t always understand is that mania can be exhausting.
It can feel like your mind is running faster than your body can keep up with.
It can feel like having 100 tabs open in your brain, and every single one of them is playing sound.
It can feel like ideas, emotions, responsibilities, visions, fears, memories, and decisions are all fighting for your attention at the same time.
Yes, sometimes it looks productive.
Sometimes it looks like creativity.
Sometimes it looks like confidence.
Sometimes it looks like strength.
Sometimes it looks like I’m handling everything.
But inside, it can feel like I’m constantly trying to manage a storm that nobody else can see.
The hard part is people often praise what mania produces without understanding what it costs🤏
They see the work.
They see the details.
They see the ideas.
They see the ex*****on.
But they don’t always see the sleepless nights, the overstimulation, the irritability, the racing thoughts, the emotional crashes, the pressure to keep functioning, or the exhaustion that comes from never truly feeling still.
Being bipolar is not just being “moody.”
It’s not just having good days and bad days.
For me, it has meant learning how to live with a mind that can move at a speed I didn’t ask for. A mind that can create beautifully, but also overwhelm me deeply.
And sometimes, the same gift people admire is the same thing I have to survive‼️
That is why mental health matters to me.
Not because I’m weak.
Not because I don’t trust God.
Not because I’m ungrateful.
Not because I don’t want to show up.
But because I know what happens when I ignore myself for too long.
I know what happens when I push past the warning signs.
I know what happens when I keep pouring from a mind, body, and spirit that need rest.
I know what happens when I pretend I’m okay just because I’m still functioning.
Prioritizing my mental health is not an excuse.
It is wisdom.
It is stewardship.
It is survival.
It is obedience to the life God still has for me.
So when I say, “prioritize your mental health before it prioritizes you,” I’m not just talking about being tired.
I’m talking about protecting your mind before your mind forces you to stop‼️
I’m talking about listening to the signs before the crash comes‼️
I’m talking about honoring the version of you that looks strong on the outside but is quietly begging for rest on the inside‼️
If you live with bipolar disorder, I see you.
If you are manic more than you are still, I see you.
If people only understand your productivity but not your pain, I see you.
And if you’re learning how to care for your mind without shame, I’m proud of you.
Mental health is not a trend for me.
It’s real life.
It’s daily work.
It’s something I have to honor.
Because I deserve to live, not just function.
