The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has announced a historic $50 million gift to four of Atlanta’s HBCUs—Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, and Spelman College.

The 10-year commitment will provide nearly 10,000 students with “gap scholarships” to cover financial shortfalls that can prevent graduation, particularly for those in good academic standing. Foundation president Fay Twersky called the gift “a material investment in hope.”

As the largest HBCU-focused donation in the foundation’s history, the initiative builds on previous support, including $10 million to Spelman and $6 million for athletic facilities at several HBCUs. Arthur Blank, billionaire philanthropist and co-founder of The Home Depot, has pledged to give away half his wealth and has already donated over $1.5 billion to causes nationwide.

“This monumental investment will ensure talent and hard work—not financial hardship—shape our students’ futures,” said Morehouse President Dr. F. DuBois Bowman. Leaders praised the impact on student success and economic mobility.
