What’s Inside the Book | The Dedication

Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking you through the pages of Celeste Paves the Way, revealing what’s inside the book and offering insights into how it can be used to educate and learn while enjoying the story. We’re going to start with the dedication!

This book is dedicated to the life and legacy of pioneers of flight, trailblazers in their time, upon whose wings we still fly. The vision for this image came from the idea of always having the forebears of flight close by. A sense that they can watch over the work at hand and serve as a reminder of the strength and courage needed to face hard things.

Some days, the story of the world’s first Black fighter pilot, Eugene Bullard, might inspire one to keep fighting when the odds are stacked against you. On other days, the efforts of Willa Brown and Cornelius Coffey to run the first Black-owned certified flight school may resonate.

As readers come across these faces and names, we hope that they will use it as an opportunity to explore the lives of those represented. Their accomplishments and achievements have paved the way in the field of aviation and beyond.

IBPA’s Publishing University 2026 was nothing short of amazing! I met so many wonderful people and learned a lot from the carefully curated sessions.

Thanks to everyone who attended my breakout on booking international author events, which took place in the steel bridge room - quite fitting for a book about a civil engineer!

The built-in trip to Powell's Books (the world's largest independent bookstore) was a great touch!

BOOK COVER REVEAL!

The moment you've been waiting for is finally here - the cover design of Celeste Paves the Way is complete!

Book number three of the Celeste collection brings your favorite civil engineer to Atlanta, Georgia, where she works with a dynamic team on a runway replacement project to accommodate larger aircraft. This book takes readers behind the scenes of what it's like to design and build a runway, but it doesn't stop there.

The story includes insights into various careers, like a trip to a materials testing lab to determine whether asphalt or concrete is the best material to use. A tribute to lesser-known aviation pioneers accompanies Celeste’s visit with an airplane mechanic. A walk on the runway to check for foreign object debris by the “FOD SQUAD” offers an additional touchpoint about what it takes to make our airports safe for planes.
