A high-definition nest camera in Lancaster County has captured a scene that has left thousands of viewers in a state of deep anxiety and mourning this morning. In what is being described as a "critical biological failure," a mature female eagle—a bird that has successfully fledged over a dozen chicks in this territory—was found collapsed and motionless in the center of her nest.
Unlike typical territorial battles or infrastructure accidents, this eagle is facing a much quieter, internal crisis. Biologists from the Pennsylvania Game Commission have been monitoring her behavior via the live feed and believe she is suffering from a severe case of Avian Malaria (Plasmodium).👇
