Did you know that basketweave and continental produce the same thing - a tent stitch? It’s just two different ways to get there! 🪡✨
At Howdy Honey we teach continental in our beginner classes (and you can do this stitch for the rest of your life and never learn a different one AND YOU ARE STILL A NEEDLEPOINTER!) 😂 I never even tried a speciality stitch for the first seven years of stitching!
But there are some benefits of using basketweave instead of continental! It does not warp your canvas as much if you are stitching in hand, and you never have to change directions that the plane is flying over the intersection! It’s Texas to New York the whole time (for right handed basketweave that is!)
These honey knocked it out of the park in their first basketweave class!!! A square or rectangular canvas like this one from Initial K Studio | Needlepoint Canvases with one or two colors is a great design to learn basketweave on!

Mark your calendars honey - we are TWO WEEKS AWAY from the Susan Roberts Needlepoint Designs pop-up trunk show (in store only) on Aug 29th and 30th! We open at 10 AM both days!!
In stock designs will be 20% off and there will be many full-size stockings, 3-D gingerbread houses, Nutcrackers, star ornaments and quilted pillows plus much more not shown in the photos!
Susan Roberts has long been a favorite designer of mine, and we will continue to carry a good variety in the shop, but we will not be able to take pre-orders for the trunk show sale. So be sure to get here early if you want to secure your favorite from this bunch!

Hi honey - I’m Mallory the owner of Howdy Honey Needlepoint in Houston, Texas and wanted to take a moment to re-introduce myself and my shop to all the new followers! Thank you for being here!!✨💕🪡
At Howdy Honey, we firmly believe it’s never too early or too late to hop on the needlepoint bandwagon!! We love to introduce this hobby to new people and have taught over 1,000 people to stitch in our first year!
Before opening the shop, I spent 15 years in education. I taught teens to sew as a high school teacher, I trained flight attendants for an airline, and I built training programs using educational technology for Facebook!
And exactly 2 years ago I decided to quit the corporate grind, cash out my 401(k) and dive headfirst into opening a local needlepoint shop! I had been obsessed with needlepoint for many years and knew a lot of other people would be too if there was a shop that catered to the modern working women - but I couldn’t find one that did, so I opened one myself!
A shop that stays open late and on Sundays! A shop that is focused on beginners with projects and fibers that aren’t intimidating when you’re new! A shop with canvases that reflect the diverse backgrounds and interests of the customer! A shop with transparent timelines and pricing for finishing services! A shop that fosters community and helps stitchers make friends and feel part of something with events and classes!
That is what I set out to build with Howdy Honey, and it only has worked because of the support from y’all!! THANK YOU for loving needlepoint and embracing my little vision of a LNS for the modern gal of 2026!
We are gearing up for our TWO YEAR anniversary this November, and I can’t wait to share some of the exciting things we have planned!
