Kicking off The Tune Up: Mark Halata Texavia.

Mark Halata was Texas State Accordion Champion at age 13 and has spent his life carrying the Czech-Moravian polka tradition that runs deep through Texas dance halls. Shaped by legendary Texas polka bands like Joe Patek, Wence Shimek, and The Red Ravens, he keeps that music and culture alive, with a range that also spans country, Cajun, Zydeco, Tex-Mex, and rock 'n' roll.

For Texavia, he brought in renowned Austin bassist Mark Rubin of Bad Livers, with Bruce and Jeff Brosch on rhythm guitar and drums. Grab a dance partner and step into Texas-Moravian accordion heaven.

Saturday, September 5 at Rockefeller's Houston, 3620 Washington Ave. Doors 6 PM, concert 8 PM.

🫀OUR HEARTS ARE BURSTING!

Wonderful this afternoon to see so many familiar faces today at the open house showcasing Casa Ramirez FOLKART Gallery’s partnership with Pancho Claus Arts & Education Center — two Houston institutions devoted to celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture 24/7/365.

Having BOSSA II — Jesus & Maria — performing, along with refrescos and good conversation made it seem like old times!

La Tiendita — our curated gift shop with books and folkart — and the center’s cultural and educational exhibits will be open by appointment and for special events, like today’s. We especially welcome school and other youth and community groups!

You’ll find us at 390 Glenborough Dr, Suite 160, and can visit by appointment by calling Richard Reyes at 713-208-0606 or emailing [email protected].

Hope to see you soon!
