Yes we’ve got local honey in store!!

🚨 Costco and other major retailers’ rock-bottom “organic” honey is a calculated betrayal of American consumers.

Shoppers are being intentionally and systematically misled.

That ultra-cheap Kirkland Signature Organic Raw Honey and similar products lining shelves at Costco, Walmart, Whole Foods, Kroger and other big retailers carry the official USDA Organic seal, yet major U.S. beekeepers have just sued the USDA.

They allege the agency is enabling a massive double standard that allows millions of pounds of imported honey to receive the same seal under far weaker rules unavailable to American producers.

The facts are alarming. U.S. organic standards require bees to forage exclusively within a 1.8-mile radius of certified organic land, a near-impossible barrier for commercial beekeepers, which is why only four certified organic honey operations exist in the entire country, all in Hawaii.

Foreign producers, particularly from Brazil, bypass these requirements through group certifications that often skip rigorous on-site inspections and through the U.S.-Canada organic equivalency arrangement, which permits hives near conventional farmland treated with synthetic chemicals.

The result is honey labeled “USDA Organic” that does not meet the standards American consumers believe they are paying for.

This flood of low-cost imports has devastated the domestic market, with U.S. honey sales dropping 14% in a single year while warehouses hold roughly 60 million pounds of unsold American honey and some producers sit on three years of inventory, forced to sell at a loss.

Costco and other major retailers continue selling this product as genuine organic, complete with the trusted USDA seal, while American beekeepers who follow the actual rules are driven out of business and consumers who rely on that seal to guarantee chemical-free forage conditions are being defrauded.

The situation represents a regulatory failure that undermines the integrity of the entire organic system, misleads the public, and threatens the survival of U.S. beekeeping operations.

The lawsuit filed this week demands the USDA stop authorizing the organic seal on foreign honey until certification practices comply with federal law.

Until then, every jar of that bargain “organic” honey represents a quiet erosion of trust.

Support your local producers who actually meet the standards.

The organic label is only as strong as the integrity behind it, and right now that integrity is under direct assault.
