A Brief Intermission… 🤍

I know this may feel unexpected, and I have struggled to find the right words to share this chapter with you. This is not a decision I came to quickly or easily, but one that has required a great deal of thought, reflection, and trust in what lies ahead.

Today, the sign will come down, and this chapter at The Priory’s current location will come to a close. But while the sign may be coming down, the story of The Priory is far from finished.

After much thought and prayer, I have made the decision to take a brief intermission as I carefully pack up The Priory and prepare for its next chapter.

Many of you have walked this journey alongside me over the past year. You have witnessed the unexpected challenges this location has brought, from the flood that delayed our opening, to eleven months of ongoing construction, disruptions, and circumstances that, if I’m being completely honest, made this space increasingly difficult to operate from. Through it all, your kindness, encouragement, and support have meant more than you know.

The reality is that this location was simply not the sustainable home The Priory needed. While that is difficult to say out loud, I also believe that sometimes closing one chapter is necessary in order to make room for the right one.

This is not the end of The Priory. It is simply taking a brief intermission while I work toward creating its next home here in Hudson.

For the past nine years, The Priory has been built on a love for thoughtfully gathered pieces, storied homes, and the beauty found in things that carry a history. It has always been about more than four walls — it has been about the feeling created within them and the community that has grown around it.

Thank you for every visit, every conversation, every purchase, and every word of encouragement. Thank you for believing in The Priory throughout this journey.

I hope you’ll stay with me as I continue carrying this dream forward for many years to come. The sign may be coming down, but the story is still unfolding, and I truly believe the best chapters are still ahead.

With gratitude,
Denise 🤍

Autumn is beginning to arrive at The Priory. 🍂

I've been unpacking new fall arrivals, and the shop is slowly beginning to take on that cozy, collected feeling we love so much this time of year.

From timeless home décor to charming seasonal touches, there are so many lovely pieces waiting to be discovered.

We'll be open tomorrow 11-3 and would love to see you.

Stop in, say hello, and be among the first to shop what's new. 🤍

The doors will be open this Friday and Saturday 11-3pm. 🤍

After a very warm couple of weeks, we're happy to share that a cooling solution will be in place, making it much more comfortable to browse, visit, and linger awhile.

We've also welcomed several new and returning Eric & Eloise friends to the shop..as well as a few thoughtfully gathered finds that have quietly arrived while we've been waiting for cooler days.

Thank you for your patience and for continuing to support this little shop through every season. Your kindness has carried us more than you'll ever know.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Priory this Saturday from 11-3.

Until then... we're getting everything ready for a beautiful day together.

Today's atmosphere is a little too historically accurate.

While The Priory is inspired by timeless spaces, we didn't intend to recreate a 19th-century summer.

After doing our best to push through the past couple of weeks without air conditioning, today has simply become too much. It's now 90° inside the shop, so we'll be closing for the day.

Thank you so much for your grace and understanding. We look forward to welcoming you back just as soon as cooler air—and a working air conditioner—return.

Stay cool out there... we're certainly trying. 🤍

I've carried this quietly for a long time. Today... I'd like to share the story behind The Priory—the one many of you never had the chance to see. Thank you for taking a few moments to read it. ♡

I've several posts lately asking why The Priory hasn't been open daily...or what's been happening behind the scenes.

The truth is... I've struggled to find the words because... for so long... I felt the need to sugarcoat them.

Every business has a story....but
sometimes the story people see isn't the story that's actually being lived.

For the better part of the last year, you've walked through the doors of The Priory and experienced beautifully curated shelves, the familiar scent of candles burning, and a space I hoped offered a quiet moment of respite from the busyness of everyday life.

The name The Priory was never chosen by accident.

To me, it represented more than a storefront...It represented Refuge, Hospitality, and Restoration.

A place where people could slow down, feel welcomed, and leave carrying a little more peace than when they arrived.
More than anything...I hoped that's what you felt.

Because I wasn't simply trying to create a shop. I was trying to create a place where people could breathe a little deeper, linger a little longer, and remember that beauty, hospitality, and home still matter.

Behind those doors, though, there has been another story....A story I haven't shared.

When I signed the lease in July... I truly believed I was opening a new chapter for a business that had already proven itself over many years. I believed I had found a place where The Priory could finally put down roots in Hudson.

But...just weeks later...the building flooded:(

What followed wasn't simply a delayed opening. It became almost eleven months of near-daily reconstruction, remediation, and ongoing construction that...even today...is still present—not only within my own space, but throughout the building as the upper and lower floors were being redeveloped and converted into residential rentals.

For a new business trying to establish itself in a new community, consistency is everything. Unfortunately... consistency was something The Priory never truly had the opportunity to experience.

Day after day, I unlocked the doors hoping customers would see the beauty of what I was trying to create, while behind the scenes there was noise, dust, contractors, interruptions, and the constant uncertainty that comes with trying to operate a business in an environment that never truly settled.

I don't share this to place blame.

I'm sharing it because I've spent the better part of a year quietly carrying it. I welcomed people through the doors, smiled, and continued believing that if I simply worked hard enough, eventually the business would gain the traction it needed. Looking back... I realize many people only ever saw the finished front portion of the storefront. They had no way of knowing what was happening behind the scenes or what it took each day simply to keep moving forward.

There were many days when I questioned whether I simply wasn't doing enough.

Looking back now... I realize something different.

I wasn't simply trying to build a business.

I was trying to recover from setbacks while simultaneously being expected to operate as though none of them existed.

Those are two very different things.

Even through all of it, I continued investing in this dream.

I poured tens of thousands of dollars into inventory because I believed in what The Priory could become. I continued restoring homes, taking on custom projects, creating markets, painting, styling, sourcing, and showing up every single day because I believed this community deserved the vision I had carried for so long.

And then something beautiful happened.

You showed up.

You lingered.

You brought your friends.

You trusted me with your homes.

You shared my posts.

You encouraged me on the hard days without ever realizing how much I needed those words.

Time and again I heard:

"Hudson needed this."

"This is my favorite shop."

"It feels so peaceful in here."

Those words have carried me farther than you'll ever know.

Today...I don't know what the next chapter looks like. But I do know this...

My heart is still here.

And this isn't the chapter I ever imagined writing, especially just as so many of you were beginning to discover The Priory.

Perhaps that's what makes it so difficult.

Just as so many of you were finding us, I was quietly fighting to keep the dream alive.

But I also know this.

Dreams don't always struggle because they lack passion, effort, or community support.

Sometimes...they struggle because they're asked to grow under circumstances that make growth extraordinarily difficult.

One thing this past year has never changed is how deeply I've come to love this community.

Hudson...you have welcomed The Priory with open arms. You've embraced my vision, supported my work, and reminded me...time and again...that there was a place for it here.

For that, I will always be grateful.

Whatever tomorrow brings, know I still believe deeply in The Priory.

Not because of a building or an address...
but because a Priory...at its heart...has always been a place of refuge.

A place where beauty is preserved.

Where weary souls are welcomed.

Where hospitality is offered freely.

Where restoration is possible.

And where hope quietly endures.

That was my prayer when I chose Hudson.

And despite everything that has happened...that prayer hasn't changed.

Hudson still has my heart.

And I still believe The Priory's story isn't finished.

With love and gratitude,

Denise ♡

Open Fri and Sat 11-3

The beauty has always been in the details.

A stack of botanical pillows. Storied earthenware. A goose tucked amongst the greenery. A well-loved lamp. Pieces that may seem ordinary on their own, but together create a home that feels gathered over time rather than decorated all at once.

I've always believed the most beautiful spaces aren't the loudest ones. They're the ones that invite you to slow down, linger a little longer, and discover something new each time you walk through.

That is the heart behind The Priory — creating a collection of timeless pieces that feel as though they've always belonged.

Quietly gathered. Thoughtfully chosen. Meant to be lived with.
