Just two hours north of New York City, Hudson is known for its creative community. Here, three insiders share their favorite places to eat, shop, explore and experience the city like a local.
Hudson has reinvented itself more than once. Founded in the years after the American Revolution by whalers and merchants, the riverfront city became a thriving port before evolving into an industrial center filled with factories and workshops.
Today, another transformation is underway. Its historic streets are now lined with galleries, antique stores, boutiques and restaurants, and old industrial buildings are finding new lives.
What makes Hudson unusual is how much is packed into such a small place. Sean Roland, co-owner of the new Pocketbook Hudson hotel, calls it โa microcosm of a city.โ He points to its unusually broad mix of architecture. โAs you walk around, youโll see incredible Victorian mansions and then youโll see an early Quaker meeting house from the late 1700sโ
