FATHER CHARLES MERRILL, REQUIESCAT IN PACE
It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of the Rev. Dr. Charles J. Merrill, who has been living in retirement at the Cathedral rectory for just over a year now. Father died at about 12:00noon today with family by his side, including his two children. His death was peaceful and he had received the last sacraments recently, having been visited over these past two weeks regularly by priests. The funeral will be on Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00am. THERE WILL BE NO CONFESSIONS OR 12:10PM MASS ON TUESDAY. This time and schedule variance is to accommodate those with a long drive from the northern part of the Diocese who desire to come, since Father spent 12 of his 13 years as a priest in Huntsville and Decatur. Visitation will be on Monday night at the Cathedral church from 5:00 to 7:00pm (Rosary at 6:40pm). Visitation will also take place Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00am (Rosary at 10:40am). A complete obituary may be downloaded from the Cathedral web site:https://stpaulsbhm.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/obituary-fr-charles-merrill.pdf (one will be published on local secular media also, but it may have to be shortened). May Fr. Charles Merrill rest in peace!
