🚨 **Training Where Every Second Matters** 🚨

We had the pleasure of spending time with the Bureau of Reclamation – Palisades Dam team providing CPR, AED, and First Aid training.

Their work environment is truly unique. Their team is responsible not only for the safety of their crew, but also for responding to emergencies involving the public in and around the dam and surrounding recreation areas.

That means being prepared for everything from workplace injuries to sudden medical emergencies in a complex, remote, and often unpredictable environment.

As a first responder-owned business, we understand that effective training isn’t just about checking a box. It’s about understanding the environment, recognizing the challenges your team may face, and building the confidence to respond when it matters most.

Did you know about "Hands Only" CPR?
The Facts 📊

- Around 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in homes.
- Only about 48% of cardiac arrests receive help before EMS arrives.
- 70% of Americans feel helpless during a cardiac arrest because they never learned CPR or were too afraid to perform it.

Reality is that if someone experiences a cardiac arrest and does not receive immediate CPR, the likelihood of that person surviving dwindles about 10% for every MINUTE. 📉

With those facts in mind, a campaign was headed by the American Heart Association with the goal of getting more bystanders to perform CPR before the arrival of EMS. 🚑

"Hands Only" CPR is an extremely effective way to provide lifesaving measures without being invasive at all and is proven to be just as effective as CPR with rescue breathing in the early stages of a cardiac arrest. 📈

How does it work?

The blood in your body stays oxygenated for roughly 5-7 minutes after the heart stops beating, thus providing the patient with just compressions in the early stages of CPR is very effective. 🩺
How to perform "Hands Only" CPR:

- Recognize a cardiac arrest by pressing lightly on the side of the patients neck to feel for a pulse while checking to see if they are breathing.🆘
- Dial 911 and inform the dispatcher of the situation.
- If you do NOT feel a pulse, place your hands on the center of the patients chest.
- Push HARD and FAST at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute.
- Do not stop until directed by an EMS provider. 🛑

These pictures may look like I had an amazing Fourth of July.
What they don't show are the moments I missed while working — the time with my kids, the celebrations I wasn't able to be part of, and the sacrifices that come with this career. That is the reality for many first responders. While others are celebrating, we are often responding because someone, somewhere, is having one of the worst days of their life.
Behind every emergency scene is a family whose life can change in an instant. For the first responders who answered that call, those moments don’t end when the lights are turned off and the ambulance returns to the station. Those calls stay with us long after the scene is cleared.
What is difficult sometimes is seeing comments about being inconvenienced by traffic, delays, or road closures without knowing the reason behind them. What may look like a frustrating backup is often because firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, and other responders are working to protect lives, care for patients, and support families during moments they will never forget.
Those flashing lights are not just an interruption. They are a reminder that someone is having a day they never expected.
There is so much more happening behind the scenes than most people ever see.
Our communities need volunteers in Fire and EMS. If you have ever considered serving, please take that step. It will change your perspective on what a true emergency looks like and show you the incredible difference you can make when someone is experiencing their worst day.
Please be patient. Please slow down. Please remember there are people behind every emergency call — responders, patients, and families whose lives may never be the same.

We had the honor of teaching a CPR & First Aid class tailored specifically for the dedicated volunteer firefighters of Swan Valley . ❤️🚒

These men and women selflessly volunteer their time to protect our community, and it was a privilege to help strengthen the skills they rely on when seconds matter most.

We covered life-saving topics including CPR, AED use, choking emergencies, severe bleeding, medical emergencies, and patient assessment—all with real-world scenarios relevant to the calls they respond to.

Thank you to the Swan Valley Fire volunteers for your commitment to continual learning and for everything you do for our community. Your willingness to train today helps make our valley safer tomorrow.
