The City of Rainsville Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of our own, Chief Thomas Ridgeway.

Chief Ridgeway embodied all the qualities of a great leader. He was instrumental in moving the Rainsville Fire Department to 24-hour shifts with multiple firefighters on each shift, helping strengthen the department and better serve our community.

He also completely revamped the department’s fleet of fire trucks, making operations more efficient and effective. But beyond his accomplishments as a chief, his greatest impact was the people he touched.

Chief Ridgeway was a friend, mentor, and role model to countless firefighters throughout DeKalb County and the surrounding counties. His knowledge, leadership, friendship, and dedication to the fire service will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
You will be deeply missed, Chief Ridgeway.
Rest in Peace, Chief. 🚒🖤🙏

Today, Froggie Freeze pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, service members, families, and communities forever impacted by that day.
